However, Chung later \u200cclarified in an interview with CNN that he did not intend for \u200cthe movie to convey any \u200dspecific message and that \u2064cinema should reflect the world rather \u200bthan preach.\u200c The lack of a direct reference to climate change\u200d in the film surprised entertainment news outlets,\u200c who noted the absence of activist messaging\u200b in other successful \u2062blockbuster\u200c films like\u2062 &#8220;Inside Out 2.&#8221; director Lee Isaac Chung appears to be strongly backing away from those sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Twisters,&rdquo; the sequel to the 1996 natural disaster film &ldquo;Twister,&rdquo; is about a group of scientists who are trying to collect data in hopes of &ldquo;taming&rdquo; or lessening the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/drone-fly-shows-happens-wind-turbine-meets-tornado-bad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">destructive impact<\/a> of tornadoes.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s a schlocky, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/curious-twisters-director-changing-stance-on-climate-change-narrative\/\" title=\"Curious: &#039;Twisters&#039; Director Changing Stance on Climate Change Narrative\">pseudo-sci-fi summer blockbuster<\/a> in every sense of the word, which is why the movie raised a few eyebrows when it was seemingly a vehicle to push <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/6-years-since-greta-thunberg-warned-5-years-stop-extinction-humanity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">climate-change alarmism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In late June, Chung spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/twisters-director-lee-isaac-chung-sequel-climate-change-1235922437\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> and seemed almost eager &mdash; at least in the Reporter&rsquo;s characterization &mdash; to push &ldquo;Twisters&rdquo; as a champion for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-republicans-introduce-bill-to-block-super-sized-irs-from-targeting-middle-class-americans\/\" title=\"Senate Republicans Introduce Bill to Block \u2018Super-Sized IRS\u2019 from Targeting Middle-Class Americans\">climate-change policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Anytime Hollywood is doing anything with climate change, I think we have to stay positive and let people have fun,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/viewer-beware-blockbuster-sequel-really-just-trojan-horse-climate-change-alarmists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chung told<\/a> the outlet. &ldquo;As a production, we want to inspire people to embrace the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>  <script> \t\t\t\tif( ! getCookie( 'ff_subbed' ) ) if( typeof FFADS.replace_ict !='undefined' ) if( FFADS.replace_ict ) eval( FFADS.replace_ict ); \t\t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That can go quite a long ways toward influencing people to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/god-loves-me-10-year-old-trans-child-quotes-bible-to-tell-tx-legislators-why-they-shouldnt-ban-trans-surgeries-procedures-for-minors\/\" title=\"\u2018God Loves Me\u2019: 10-Year-Old Trans Child Quotes Bible To Tell TX Legislators Why They Shouldn\u2019t Ban Trans Surgeries, Procedures For Minors\">make good choices<\/a> in their relationship with nature, to study what&rsquo;s happening on this Earth and to figure out how can we become better caretakers of the planet.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the Reporter piece, the piece claimed, &ldquo;Chung says that he hopes his summer blockbuster will inspire people to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/viewer-beware-new-twisters-movie-is-a-trojan-horse-for-climate-change-alarmists\/\" title=\"Viewer Beware: New \u2018Twisters\u2019 Movie Is a Trojan Horse for Climate Change Alarmists\">regard climate scientists<\/a> as the real superheroes.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Now?<\/p>\n<p>Chung couldn&rsquo;t distance himself any more from that sort of messaging.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I just wanted to make sure that with the movie, we don&rsquo;t ever feel like (it) is putting forward any message,&rdquo; Chung told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/07\/16\/entertainment\/twisters-film-interviews-climate-change\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. &ldquo;I just don&rsquo;t feel like films are meant to be message-oriented.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I wanted to make sure that we are never creating a feeling that we&rsquo;re preaching a message, because that&rsquo;s certainly not what I think cinema should be about,&rdquo; Chung added. &ldquo;I think it should be a reflection of the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Again, that&rsquo;s starkly different messaging than what was seen in the Reporter piece.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainment news outlet appeared to be flabbergasted at the film&rsquo;s lack of climate-change narrative in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/twisters-climate-change-1235949639\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assessment<\/a> of the messaging in &ldquo;Twisters.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The outlet called the lack of direct reference to climate change as &ldquo;rather surprising,&rdquo; and even took a jab at Chung&rsquo;s assertion that movies should &ldquo;be a reflection of the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Reporter, rather snidely, added &ldquo;Or, at least, a reflection of studio caution during polarized times when looking for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twisters-director-now-distancing-from-climate-change-narrative-after-previously-supporting-it\/\" title=\"Twisters director now distancing from climate-change narrative after previously supporting it\">summer movie hit&#038;rdquo<\/a>; on top of Chung&rsquo;s previous statement.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that one of the biggest (surprise) blockbuster hits of the year is Disney&rsquo;s &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/world-disneys-latest-film-actually-exceeding-expectations-amid-rough-2024-box-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside Out 2<\/a>,&rdquo;
