The rally was considered a “loose” security event, ⁢with security lapses including the ⁢failure to use K-9 detection, maintain proper security near the podium, and allowing unauthorized people into backstage areas. The House Judiciary Committee wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray about vulnerabilities during the rally and the FBI’s ability to conduct‍ a thorough investigation. The shooter ⁢reportedly hid a gun at the rally site⁢ before the ⁣event. Police ‌reportedly informed the Secret Service beforehand that they did⁤ not have enough manpower to secure the building ‍from which the shooter fired. Secret Service agents spotted the shooter on the roof before the assassination attempt, and rally attendees also saw him before shots were fired. When a bullet grazed Trump’s right ear during the assassination ‌attempt, Secret Service agents dove⁤ on top of him⁢ and ushered him to ⁣safety.

Federal officials planned former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania with “loose security,” according to whistleblower allegations.
