Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, \u2063has called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign due to &#8220;unacceptable operational failures&#8221; that came to light after the failed assassination \u200dattempt on former President \u200bDonald Trump. Boyle, who represents a suburban\u2064 Philadelphia district, is \u200bthe first congressional Democrat to join Republicans in \u2063asking Cheatle to step down\u200d following the\u2062 shooting incident that wounded Trump and killed one man. \u200dThe Secret \u2063Service had reportedly \u200bdenied\u2063 requests for\u200b additional resources and personnel,\u2062 leading \u2062to criticism\u2062 from both parties. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) called on <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/secret-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Secret Service<\/a> Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign, citing &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrat-demands-resignation-of-secret-service-director-3\/\" title=\"House Democrat demands resignation of Secret Service director\">unacceptable operational failures&#038;rdquo<\/a>; that have come to light since the failed assassination attempt on former President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Boyle, who represents a suburban <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Philadelphia<\/a> district, became the first congressional Democrat to join numerous voices in the Republican Party who have asked Cheatle to step down since last weekend&rsquo;s shooting that wounded Trump&rsquo;s ear, killed one man, and injured two others.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am calling on Director Cheatle to resign immediately following last weekend&rsquo;s shooting of a Presidential candidate in Western Pennsylvania,&rdquo; Boyle said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CongBoyle\/status\/1814831914588533104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>statement<\/a>. &ldquo;The evidence coming to light has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrat-demands-resignation-of-secret-service-director-2\/\" title=\"House Democrat demands resignation of Secret Service director\">shown unacceptable operational failures<\/a>. I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service if Director Cheatle chooses to remain in her position.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Pennsylvania congressman&rsquo;s statement came within hours of the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/07\/20\/trump-secret-service-security-attempted-assassination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reporting<\/a> that the Secret Service had &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrat-demands-resignation-of-secret-service-director-4\/\" title=\"House Democrat demands resignation of Secret Service director\">repeatedly denied requests&#038;rdquo<\/a>; from the former president&rsquo;s security detail for &ldquo;additional resources and personnel.&rdquo; Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the <em>New York Times<\/em> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/20\/us\/politics\/secret-service-trump-shooting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>statement<\/a> that while the agency did deny some requests, it did not for last weekend&rsquo;s rally. Another <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/20\/us\/politics\/trump-rally-police-secret-service-shooting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>story<\/a> indicated that the Secret Service &ldquo;expected the sizable contingent of officers from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-votes-on-major-security-upgrade-will-fine-members-5k-for-bypassing-metal-detectors\/\" title=\"House Votes On Major Security Upgrade, Will Fine Members K For Bypassing Metal Detectors\">local law enforcement agencies<\/a> to contain any threats outside of the secured zone but assigned almost all those officers to work inside it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In the hours after the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, just over 300 miles from his district, Boyle condemned political violence in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CongBoyle\/status\/1812267068487778628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>post<\/a> on X in which he expressed gratitude for &ldquo;everything the men and women in law enforcement do to keep Americans safe&rdquo; and that Trump was OK.<\/p>\n<p>Boyle joins several elected Republicans, including Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3087192\/johnson-joins-voices-demanding-secret-service-director-resign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) and Senate GOP Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3088288\/mcconnell-republicans-new-secret-service-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mitch McConnell<\/a> (R-KY), who have called for Cheatle&rsquo;s resignation. Earlier in the week, she vowed not to step down.<\/p>\n<p>Cheatle and several other senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint statement Saturday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3092454\/dhs-defends-female-law-enforcement-agents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>defending<\/a> women who work in law enforcement, including the Secret Service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In the days following the attempted assassination of former President Trump, some people have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrat-demands-resignation-of-secret-service-director\/\" title=\"House Democrat demands resignation of Secret Service director\">made public statements questioning<\/a> the presence of women in law enforcement, including in the United States Secret Service,&rdquo; the statement reads. &ldquo;These assertions are baseless and insulting.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The House Oversight and Accountability Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3087388\/oversight-committee-subpoenas-secret-service-director-trump-assassination-attempt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>subpoenaed<\/a> Cheatle on Wednesday, and she has agreed to comply.
