They are brave and selfless patriots who deserve our gratitude and respect.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3083077\/secret-service-dei-policies-scrutiny-trump-assassination-attempt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>drawn the ire<\/a> of many people after a shooter fired at Trump during his rally last weekend in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman shot six times before a Secret Service countersniper &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3081237\/suspected-shooter-and-rally-goer-dead-at-trump-rally-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>neutralized<\/a>&rdquo; him. The former president, who has since accepted the Republican presidential nomination for the third consecutive cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3081339\/trump-confirms-he-was-shot-in-the-ear-i-knew-immediately-that-something-was-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>thanked<\/a> the &ldquo;Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response&rdquo; to the shooting in a post on Truth Social in the hours after it happened.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3082720\/what-to-know-about-secret-service-director-kimberly-cheatle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Cheatle<\/a>, the second female Secret Service director in the agency&rsquo;s 159-year history, has faced many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3089929\/secret-service-director-resignation-gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>calls<\/a> to resign in the week after the assassination attempt, including from House Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3087192\/johnson-joins-voices-demanding-secret-service-director-resign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA).
