(AP Photo\/Alex Brandon)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 11:14 AM PT \u2013 Tuesday, March 16, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has sided with the some of his Democrat colleagues by calling to reform the filibuster.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking on the Senate floor Tuesday, the Illinois lawmaker said today\u2019s filibuster has a death grip on American democracy and that it\u2019s time to change the Senate rules.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat senator added, it does not promote the balanced system, but rather the ability for one party to overpower another when trying to pass key legislation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The filibuster has a death grip on American democracy.
