The law, passed \u2062in 2021, allows leadership \u200ccommittees in the state to raise and spend\u2064 unlimited amounts of money,\u200d giving Republicans an alleged\u2064 fundraising advantage. Democrats\u200c argue that this law benefits\u200d GOP candidates due to\u200c their incumbency status. Both\u200d parties\u200b are now engaged in a \u2064legal battle\u2062 over the issue, with Democrats claiming that the playing field needs to be evened out. These types of committees may spend and raise unlimited amounts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-spent-more-backing-trump-esque-candidates-in-primaries-than-trump-has\/\" title=\"Democrats Spent More Backing Trump-esque Candidates In Primaries Than Trump Has\">money boosting candidates<\/a>. Democrats hold that the law benefits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>GOP<\/a> candidates, who they say can accumulate larger war chests due to incumbency than Democrats, who may start candidacies with less.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If you have one side allowed to collect unlimited amounts of money while the other side is handcuffed, that violates freedom of speech,&rdquo; former Georgia state Sen. Jen Jordan, who is representing the Democratic Party in the lawsuit, said in a statement. &ldquo;The playing field needs to be even &hellip; and let the chips fall where they may.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the 2021 fundraising law also allows Democrats to set up leadership committees. Separately, legislative candidates in George can raise up to $3,300 from individual contributors during the general and primary elections. The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out for comment to a spokesperson for Kemp. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Leave it to Democrats to complain about a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brexit-trade-deal-published-as-uk-calls-for-end-to-ugly-divisions\/\" title=\"Brexit trade deal published as UK calls for end to \u2018ugly\u2019 divisions\">level playing field<\/a> when they&rsquo;re entitled to play by the same rules,&rdquo; Stephen Lawson, a veteran GOP political strategist in Georgia, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;They just don&rsquo;t want to. It&rsquo;s also an indictment on their ability to raise money.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Clearly, there&rsquo;s a policy and leadership void with Georgia Democrats right now,&rdquo; Lawson said. &ldquo;They&rsquo;re resorting to lawsuits to try and tip the scales in their favor.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Gov. (Arvin Temkar\/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To the Democratic Party of Georgia, the existence of the leadership committees renders limits on individual donations in elections essentially pointless. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, Kemp, an incumbent, and his failed Democratic challenger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/stacey-abrams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Stacey Abrams<\/a>, combined to haul in $94.6 million through their respective leadership committees.
