The Iraq War \u2064lasted \u200bfrom \u20622003-2011, with Biden falsely claiming \u200bduring his 2020 presidential campaign that he was\u2064 a leading\u200b critic of the invasion. When questioned if he supported invading Iraq by Howard Stern in 2002, Trump said &ldquo;I guess so.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump named Vance as his running mate nominee on Monday, who then called Biden an &ldquo;empty vessel&rdquo; and questioned the true condition of his health, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cx992q2nyx0o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Vance claimed that Trump opposed the invasion of Iraq while Biden was for it.&nbsp;&nbsp;The statement can be heard around the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/sOKt-nxs834?feature=shared&amp;t=588\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9:51<\/a> timestamp of the CNBC video.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&ldquo;When I was a senior in high school, that same Joe Biden supported the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fncs-carlson-no-one-believes-you-anymore-joe-biden-no-one-should-believe-you\/\" title=\"FNC&#039;s Carlson: &#039;No One Believes You Anymore, Joe Biden -- No One Should Believe You&#039;\">disastrous invasion<\/a> of Iraq. Somehow a real estate developer from New York City by the name of Donald J. Trump was right on all of these issues while Biden was wrong,&rdquo; Vance said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">It does not appear that Trump made any comments in opposition of the U.S. invading Iraq before it occurred. He was asked whether he supported invading Iraq during an <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/factbase\/trump\/transcript\/donald-trump-interview-howard-stern-show-september-11-2002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rollcall.com\/factbase\/trump\/transcript\/donald-trump-interview-howard-stern-show-september-11-2002\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1721485844203000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3AF_2oZUuN9pq8UFL1aC4o\">interview<\/a> with radio host Howard Stern on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/p1vI4qj2tb0?si=fVsCgE6QjC5dE5nR&amp;t=3334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sept. 11, 2002<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&ldquo;Yeah, I guess so,&rdquo; Trump replied, adding, &ldquo;I wish the first time it was done correctly.&rdquo; In Trump&rsquo;s 2002 book &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=PV6qZU_xev8C&amp;q=warmonger#v=snippet&amp;q=warmonger&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The America We Deserve<\/a>,&rdquo; he said &ldquo;if we decide a strike against Iraq is necessary, it is madness to not carry the mission to its conclusion.&rdquo; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2024\/07\/18\/fact-check-j-d-vances-x-support-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does J.D. In 2002, Biden voted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1072\/vote_107_2_00237.htm?congress=107&amp;session=2&amp;vote=00237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resolution<\/a> that ended up authorizing then-president George W. Bush to begin the invasion, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-joe-biden-middle-east-iraq-government-and-politics-184f804c1202c0808f986425fd75341f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AP News<\/a>. Biden falsely claimed during his 2020 presidential campaign he was a leading critic of the invasion at the time and eventually called the resolution a mistake, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The Iraq War, which lasted from 2003-2011, began its first major phase when the U.S. invaded Iraq in March 2003, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/event\/Iraq-War\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britannica<\/a>. In January 2003, months before the invasion, Trump appeared on Fox Business <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/factbase\/trump\/transcript\/donald-trump-interview-fox-neil-cavuto-january-28-2003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&ldquo;Your World with Neil Cavuto,&rdquo;<\/a> where he said &ldquo;Either you attack or you don&rsquo;t attack.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">He also said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/lifestyle\/2003\/03\/25\/hollywood-partyers-soldiering-on\/06327347-83d3-44c4-ab7b-dcd6fbda5437\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 2003<\/a> that the Iraq War was a &ldquo;mess.&rdquo; He stated in a July 2003 <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.library.upenn.edu:2185\/resources\/doc\/nb\/news\/155FC18B40860C68?p=AWNB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interview<\/a> that he would &ldquo;love to see New York City&rdquo; get money that is &ldquo;going toward Iraq and other places&hellip;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&ldquo;I never did run [in 2000] and I probably never will run. But we&rsquo;re having a lot of fun. I think the president is doing a very good job. I would love to see New York City and some of the cities and some of the states get some of the money that&rsquo;s going toward Iraq and other places, because you know, they really need and it they need it badly,&rdquo; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">PolitiFact did not find him explicitly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2016\/feb\/06\/donald-trump\/donald-trump-overstates-his-early-opposition-iraq-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opposing<\/a> the war until 2004. When questioned on his comments on Iraq by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/02\/18\/politics\/donald-trump-iraq-war-radio-interview\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/02\/18\/politics\/donald-trump-iraq-war-radio-interview\/index.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1721485844203000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2VF4rwuGBxUbSyBiwlzI7C\">CNN<\/a> in 2016, Trump said he &ldquo;may have&rdquo; been in favor of the war. In a 2004 interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/news-politics\/a37230\/donald-trump-esquire-cover-story-august-2004\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esquire Magazine<\/a>, Trump said, &ldquo;Look at the war in Iraq and the mess that we&rsquo;re in.
