Vance<\/a> (R-OH) as his vice presidential nominee not only concerned the next four months before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024 election<\/a> and the next four years, should he and Vance win in November.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump\u2019s decision on Monday, announced during the opening day of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-national-convention\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican National Convention<\/a> in Milwaukee, could also define the GOP for the four or eight years after that should Vance become the party\u2019s prohibitive favorite in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>In tapping Vance, 39, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-triple-threat-what-the-former-presidents-vp-finalists-bring-to-the-table-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Trump\u2019s triple threat: What the former president\u2019s VP finalists bring to the table - Washington Examiner\">youngest vice president<\/a> since eventual President Richard Nixon, Trump has provided his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Make America Great Again<\/a> movement and America First policy platform with an opportunity to continue after his second and last term, instead of picking a more centrist, compromise candidate as an appeal to more establishment Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, a legacy-minded real estate mogul and marketing expert who rose to national prominence before <em>The Apprentice <\/em>TV series because of his branded buildings, has anointed an heir apparent in tapping Vance, according to Republican strategist Cesar Conda.<\/p>\n<p>Conda, who has known Vance since 2015 and the role of the vice presidency for longer as an aide to former Vice President Dick Cheney, predicted that Trump tapping Vance means the Republican Party \u201ccould have a more populist, working-class agenda domestically and a more cautious one internationally\u201d for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVance\u2019s modest upbringing and service as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>U.S. Marine<\/a> will strengthen the GOP\u2019s support among working-class communities while at the same time connecting with suburban voters because of his stellar academic background,\u201d Conda told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs vice president, he will have the unique viewpoint of a politician who will be youthful and experienced as both a Marine, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/yale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Yale<\/a>-educated lawyer, and a bestselling author,\u201d he said of Vance\u2019s 2016 <em>Hillbilly Elegy<\/em>. \u201cJ.D. Vance\u2019s story is a true American success story of a man who came from poverty to become the likely next vice president of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist Dennis Lennox underscored that Trump tapping Vance is about \u201cone thing and one thing only,\u201d \u201csolidifying Trump\u2019s political legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a passing of the torch,\u201d Lennox told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cJ.D. Vance has become the heir apparent to succeed Trump as leader of the populist, national-conservatism movement that has dominated the Republican Party for the last nine years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Trump and Vance win in November, we can also call the 2028 race for the Republican nomination,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s inconceivable that a Vice President Vance as President Trump\u2019s heir apparent wouldn\u2019t clear the field of any potential opponents. There would be no path for any other Republican to defeat him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although that may concern other Republicans with presidential aspirations, including Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/glenn-youngkin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Glenn Youngkin<\/a> (R-VA), Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-scott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Tim Scott <\/a>(R-SC), and Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/byron-donalds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bryon Donald<\/a>s (R-FL), who all addressed the convention on Monday night, another Republican strategist Ford O\u2019Connell, who worked on the late Arizona Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin\u2019s 2008 campaign, agreed Vance is a \u201crising star within the party\u201d who \u201ccompliments\u201d Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJ.D. Vance is the future of the Republican Party, who understands the struggles of working Americans, particularly those The forgotten men and women of the Midwest,\u201d O\u2019Connell told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Moments after Trump announced Vance as his vice presidential nominee on social media on Monday, the freshman senator, who was only elected in 2022, was introduced to the convention at Milwaukee\u2019s Fiserv Forum by Ohio Republican Senate candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bernie-moreno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bernie Moreno<\/a>, himself in a competitive race against Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/sherrod-brown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Sherrod Brown <\/a>(D-OH). Vance appeared to become emotional during Moreno\u2019s speech as delegates started writing the lawmaker\u2019s name on their Trump signs in sharpie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJ.D. JD Vance becoming Trump's VP pick\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GKLhWM_e62Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>During an Ohio delegation breakfast an hour from downtown in Lake Geneva, Ohio state Attorney General David Yost reminded the Washington <em>Examiner <\/em>Trump is term-limited \u201cso having somebody that\u2019s going to continue on that work is critical.\u201d Yost, who described Vance as a \u201cyoung,\u201d \u201cenergetic\u201d \u201chome run, grand slam, brilliant, thrilling choice,\u201d concurred it is \u201cconventional wisdom\u201d that the senator would be a front-runner to become the 2028 presidential nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou got to see what happens over the next four years and how they conduct themselves and, with Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doug-burgum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>[Doug]  Burgum<\/a>, you\u2019ve got to look at health, he\u2019s much older than J.D. is,\u201d he told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> of the North Dakota governor. \u201cOne of the benefits of JD is that we have that continuity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance, Burgum, and Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Marco Rubio<\/a> (R-FL) were reportedly Trump\u2019s top three contenders for vice president, with the latter two advised of the former president\u2019s decision in separate phone calls on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>More immediately, regardless of Trump\u2019s decision drawing ire from more centrist Republicans who, for example, may have voted for former U.N. Ambassador <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nikki-haley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Nikki Haley<\/a> during the primary or who want the U.S. to keep supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Ukraine<\/a> in its war against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Russia<\/a>, other members of the GOP, such as Michigan delegate-at-large Rep.
