J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, as his 2024 running mate on Monday. The Republican candidate\u2019s decision was no doubt a strategic one made with the recent attempt on his life in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Vice presidents have always played an important role in American history. The position as POTUS\u2019 successor, however, has become far more significant in recent weeks after this year\u2019s top two presidential candidates survived an attempted assassination and an attempted political coup.<\/p>\n<p>The Saturday shot heard around the world wasn\u2019t the first time Trump has faced a targeted attack meant to take him out of the race for the White House, and it <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/13\/this-wont-be-the-last-time-democrats-attempt-to-assassinate-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">almost certainly won\u2019t be the last<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have spent the last eight years prepping for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/14\/democrats-now-decrying-assassination-attempt-spent-8-years-fanning-flames-of-hatred-for-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">assassination<\/a> by trying to smear, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/06\/poll-more-democrats-denied-trump-won-where-were-democracy-fears-then\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">usurp<\/a>, bankrupt, de-ballot, and jail their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/is-xi-jinping-worried-about-leaving-china-chinese-leader-set-to-meet-president-biden-virtually\/\" title=\"Is Xi Jinping Worried About Leaving China? Chinese Leader Set To Meet President Biden Virtually\">top political opponent<\/a>. If they should finally succeed, Trump needs a trusted right hand who American voters can trust to handle the fallout without becoming controlled opposition.<\/p>\n<p>While he\u2019s wavered on key pro-life issues such as when he offered a full-fledged endorsement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/public-health-threat-chemical-abortion-leads-to-significantly-higher-rate-of-er-visits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dangerous<\/a> drug responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/02\/medication-abortion-now-accounts-more-half-all-us-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than half<\/a> of the nation\u2019s abortions, Vance, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/12\/ohio-sen-j-d-vance-mitch-mcconnell-slipped-a-hidden-impeachment-clause-against-trump-into-ukraine-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unlike many Republicans<\/a>, has signaled a willingness to take on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vance.senate.gov\/press-releases\/senator-vance-calls-for-criminal-investigation-into-judge-merchan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fight against deep state lawfare<\/a> and Biden\u2019s corrupt Department of Justice.  <\/p>\n<p>The 39-year-old may have only served a third of his first six-year Senate term, but he has <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/112792061935980928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">garnered Trump\u2019s trust<\/a> as someone who is \u201cstrongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.\u201d The same simply couldn\u2019t be said about any of the other potential picks on Trump\u2019s VP shortlist.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how hard she tries, Kamala Harris doesn\u2019t seem to have the same youthful allure and vigor that Vance brings to the Republican ticket. Even though she is one of the least popular, least eloquent members of the Biden administration, she very well could be running the country sometime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Until Biden\u2019s disastrous performance in the first 2024 presidential debate in June, Harris spent most of her VP tenure on the sidelines. As <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/02\/18\/border-czar-kamala-harris-heads-to-secure-ukraines-border-but-wont-protect-her-own-countrys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden\u2019s border czar<\/a>, Harris failed to assuage Americans\u2019 disdain for the unprecedented invasion of illegal border crossers plaguing their states. Pair that with her <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/kamala-harris-quotes-as-motivational-posters-to-help-you-be-unburdened-by-your-brain-cells-part-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weird monologuing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kamala-harris-receives-worst-vice-presidential-rating-nbc-news-polls-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-congressman-snubs-top-democrat-when-asked-who-hed-like-to-see-run-for-president\/\" title=\"Democrat Congressman declines to name preferred presidential candidate.\">historically low approval numbers<\/a><\/a>, and it\u2019s understandable why the Biden administration was not interested in letting her further afflict their flailing image.<\/p>\n<p>Harris\u2019 job as a benchwarmer, however, threatened to come to an end when Democrats, aided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/kamala-harris-president-biden-2024-rcna161098\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate media<\/a>, pondered ousting and replacing their party\u2019s presumed presidential candidate with someone who could at least make it off of a stage without assistance.<\/p>\n<p>If Biden manages to stumble his way through this election and into a second term, it\u2019s unlikely that his failing memory and physical weakness will carry him through another four years, which would guarantee Harris a chance behind the White House wheel. Suddenly, picking someone based on <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/10\/14\/kamala-harriss-skin-and-sex-dont-uniquely-qualify-her-for-the-vice-presidency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her sex and skin color<\/a> doesn\u2019t look so smart.<\/p>\n<p>In light of recent events, Biden and Trump\u2019s VP picks are carrying a much greater weight on their shoulders than ceremoniously showing up to White House events and rallies and potentially breaking the occasional tie vote in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The Veep race may have seemed small and inconsequential to voters in the past, but the role Vance and Harris will play in the chaos-plagued 2024 election is guaranteed to have a sizeable impact on the future of the country.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
