The article also criticizes the media\u200b for perpetuating a narrative likening Trump to Hitler and depicting a dystopian future under his leadership. the author is skeptical of calls for unity and believes that the same individuals \u2062who have stoked violence against \u2063Trump cannot suddenly change their tune.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The blood on former President Donald Trump\u2019s face was barely dry before calls to \u201ctake down the temperature\u201d and \u201cunite\u201d began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/pa-gov-says-leaders-down-171339954.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rolling in from Democrats<\/a> and their courtesans in the press.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden issued a statement after the assassination attempt Saturday evening calling for unity, as did Vice President Kamala Harris and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/14\/democrats-now-decrying-assassination-attempt-spent-8-years-fanning-flames-of-hatred-for-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scores of other Democrats<\/a>. Even the clueless and cowardly Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson got in on the unity wave, saying, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to turn the rhetoric down, we\u2019ve got to turn the temperature down in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sorry, but that\u2019s not going to happen. There can be no unity with the people and institutions who have spent years whipping the left into a violent frenzy over Trump. This goes for Democrats and the corporate media alike.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden has spent the last few years declaring over and over that Trump is a \u201cthreat to democracy.\u201d Everyone is outraged about Biden\u2019s recent call with donors when he said it\u2019s \u201ctime to put Trump in the bullseye,\u201d but far worse rhetoric from Biden has been commonplace for years. Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/columnist\/2022\/09\/02\/biden-trump-maga-republicans-speech-philadelphia-huppke\/7965143001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">infamous Red Wedding speech in Philadelphia<\/a>, where he declared Trump and MAGA Republics were a threat to democracy, was nearly two years ago. He has maintained that dangerous rhetoric ever since, repeating some version of it nearly every week. On June 28, the president <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1806745000971296833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted on X<\/a> that Trump is \u201ca genuine threat to this nation. He\u2019s a threat to our freedom. He\u2019s a threat to our democracy. He\u2019s literally a threat to everything America stands for.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Americans want a president, not a dictator.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1811913524819480810?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s not just Biden of course. Democrats and the media have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marjorie-taylor-greene-easily-defeats-primary-challengers\/\" title=\"Marjorie Taylor Greene Easily Defeats Primary Challengers\">encouraged political violence<\/a> against Trump for years, with a constant stream of overheated rhetoric designed to provoke riots, terrorist attacks, and assassinations. Now that their rhetoric has led to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-secret-service-agent-ex-wh-official-blow-lid-off-wh-cocaine-story\/\" title=\"Former Secret Service Agent and ex-White House official expose truth about White House cocaine scandal.\">actual assassination attempt<\/a> against Trump, they say they want to cool the rhetoric and call for national unity. I don\u2019t think so. You don\u2019t smack someone in the face with a hammer and then insist everyone needs to calm down.<\/p>\n<p>The corporate media especially has long pushed what Mollie Hemingway back in December called <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/14\/the-left-spent-years-running-an-assassination-prep-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-are-afraid-trump-will-do-to-them-what-they-have-done-to-him\/\" title=\"Democrats fear Trump will retaliate as they have done to him\">assassination prep<\/a><\/a>: nonstop comparisons of Trump to Hitler, incessant warnings that if Trump isn\u2019t stopped it will mean the end of democracy in America, and mantra-like repetition that a Trump victory in November means the gulags for every leftist identity group. It would sound cartoonish if it weren\u2019t true.<\/p>\n<p>The June issue of The New Republic is devoted to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/newrepublic\/status\/1810009748697448541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">comparing Trump to Hitler<\/a>, one of the greatest mass murders in human history. It\u2019s full of essays about how grim life will be under Dictator Trump. The editors justified this by saying, \u201cToday, we at The New Republic think we can spend this election year in one of two ways. We can spend it debating whether Trump meets the nine or 17 points that define fascism. Or we can spend it saying, \u2018He\u2019s damn close enough, and we\u2019d better fight.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Atlantic recently titled an entire issue \u201cIf Trump Wins,\u201d featuring dozens of articles outlining all the ways Trump will destroy America if he wins a second term. Top of the list is a piece by David Frum on autocracy under Trump, followed by pieces on misogyny, corruption, extremism, and so on. (Frum, not to be outdone by himself, posted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2024\/07\/donald-trump-democracy-dictator\/679006\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an insane rant<\/a> Sunday morning blaming Trump for his own attempted assassination, declaring that \u201cthe gunman and Trump, at their opposite ends of a bullet\u2019s trajectory, are nonetheless joined together as common enemies of law and democracy.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>This kind of assassination prep has been going on for years. The Russia-collusion hoax was designed in part to paint Trump as the agent of a malign foreign power working to undermine our country. Trump, we were told, was the enemy of the American people and had to be stopped. They never let go of that narrative, and now it\u2019s back in a slightly different form: Trump has to be stopped because <em>this<\/em> time, he\u2019ll do all the horrible things he didn\u2019t get a chance to last time, plus he\u2019ll be out for <em>revenge<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are unbothered by this sort of rhetoric. They engage in it so often it has become routine. At a rally last Thursday, Vice President Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/07\/11\/remarks-by-vice-president-harris-at-a-campaign-event-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> that Trump would be a dictator, weaponize the Justice Department against his political opponents, and destroy the Constitution. On Friday, Biden said, \u201cAmericans want a president, not a dictator,\u201d and, \u201cI mean this from the bottom of my heart, Trump is a threat to this nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of such talk was to prepare the ground for an attempt on Trump\u2019s life, and it worked. After all, if you believe a second Trump term will usher in a fascist dictatorship then surely it\u2019s morally justified, arguably even your duty, to do whatever it takes to stop him.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just assignation prep rhetoric. Consider a bill recently proposed by the former head of the Jan. 6 Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., to strip Trump of Secret Service protection. To most people, that looks like a deliberate attempt to make it as likely as possible that something like Saturday\u2019s attack on Trump\u2019s life would happen \u2014 and succeed.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why Democrat calls for unity and calm ring hollow now. They don\u2019t want unity and calm, they want violence. They wanted it in 2020 and they want it today. It doesn\u2019t matter what they say now that violence has come. It matters what they said in the lead-up to it.<\/p>\n<p>After the assassination attempt, Biden feigned outrage, saying, \u201cThe idea that there\u2019s political violence or violence in America like this is just unheard of.\u201d No, it\u2019s not. Democrats are constantly hinting at it and tacitly encouraging it when they aren\u2019t calling for it outright.<\/p>\n<p>So no, there will be no unity and no toning down of anything until Democrats and the media renounce their past violent rhetoric and stop encouraging the worst, most unstable elements in the country to carry out political terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, the rest of us will understand what Democrats and the media have made clear: They are our enemies, they wish us real harm, and they are prepared to plunge the nation into violence and civil strife before they relinquish power.
