The mummified remains<\/a> of \u2064missing American mountaineer William Stampfl were \u2062discovered more than two decades \u2062after he vanished in an avalanche \u200don Peru’s Huascaran\u200b mountain in 2002.\u2063 His body was found by a\u2064 climber making his way up \u200cthe mountain in June. \u2063Peruvian police confirmed the recovery of his body at an altitude of 17,060 feet. The discovery was unexpected for his family, who plan to have him cremated in Peru and \u2064his ashes repatriated\u200b to the United States. Stampfl’s climbing partner, Matthew Richardson, remains missing<\/a>. <\/p>\n
