Katie Porter (D-CA) and Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the committee, introduced the bill together, aiming to shore up ethics concerns in the executive branch. Their motivations are likely pointed at different presidents \u2014 Comer toward Biden for his family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-ohio-gop-senate-candidates-get-heated-have-to-be-separated-in-viral-clip\/\" title=\"WATCH: Ohio GOP Senate Candidates Get Heated, Have To Be Separated In Viral Clip\">alleged business dealings<\/a> and Porter for former President Donald Trump\u2019s tax returns.<\/p>\n<p>The bill requires the president and the vice president to be transparent with financial dealings between them or their family members, to disclose gifts valued at $10,000 or more received by them or their family, and when immediate family members accompany them on official travel, specifying when they do so for business purposes, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>The three House Democrats who pulled their support previously are Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), and Kweisi Mfume (D-MD). Khanna said the bill was \u201ctoo partisan a tool to cudgel the president as opposed to a serious effort of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrats-back-out-of-white-house-ethics-bill-after-allegedly-being-contacted-by-biden-officials\/\" title=\"House Democrats withdraw support for White House ethics bill following alleged contact from Biden officials\">bipartisan ethics reform<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khanna denied he was contacted by the White House. Mfume rescinded his support because he \u201cwanted to see a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-accused-of-intervening-to-kill-bipartisan-bill-aimed-at-holding-white-house-accountable\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Allegedly Blocks Bipartisan Bill for White House Accountability\">larger bipartisan effort<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was under the belief that there would be, and when there wasn\u2019t, I just said, \u2018Let me step off,\u2019\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Porter previously expressed confidence that the legislation will continue to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur job in Congress is to pass legislation that improves our government. This legislation does that. It is not to punish or reward friends or enemies,\u201d Porter said<em>. <\/em>\u201cIt is to pass legislation that improves the lives of the American people and improves our democracy, and this legislation meets that test.
