href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/15\/fbi-classifies-177%e2%80%ac-pro-life-groups-as-extremist-organizations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">already under scrutiny<\/a> for comparing legitimate individuals and entities \u200dconcerned with the right \u2062to life \u2064to\u2062 violent extremists,\u201d the members of Congress added. \u201cAttempts to chill speech and association on \u2064non-violent conservative positions \u2063at taxpayer expense have no place in a free \u2064society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s vital that the U.S. military create a culture of openness \u2062and fairness that does \u200dnot\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-becomes-23rd-state-to-exit-national-school-boards-association\/\" title=\"Texas Becomes 23rd State To Exit National School Boards Association \u00a0\">stifle peaceful dissent<\/a>, especially by\u2063 categorizing opposition to abortion as \u200cterrorism,\u201d the letter pro-life organizations as \u201cterrorist groups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American public expects the Department of Defense and its personnel to defend the homeland from actual terrorists, not Americans who seek protections for children in the womb,\u201d a letter sent to Army Secretary Christine Wormuth on Friday and obtained by The Federalist reads.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a6b9498ec829b5a28d4a6dc44e4cb9a0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a6b9498ec829b5a28d4a6dc44e4cb9a0\"><\/div>\n<p>Spearheaded by Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., and Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., the probe seeks to uncover information about an anti-terrorism briefing slide recently used by Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) that classified pro-life groups such as National Right to Life and Operation Rescue as threats to the American homeland.<\/p>\n<p>First <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/samosaur\/status\/1811198101522391419\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> Wednesday by self-described analyst Sam Shoemate on X, the slideshow presentation listed features of these so<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/army-axes-training-materials-labeling-pro-lifers-as-terrorists\/\" title=\"Army Axes Training Materials Labeling Pro-Lifers As Terrorists\">-called \u201canti-abortion\u201d groups<\/a>, such as their opposition to <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> and what types of activities they partake in. According to Shoemate, the pro-life slide \u201cfollowed right after a slide about ISIS, a terror group in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fort Liberty\u2019s public affairs office <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/11\/army-base-axes-use-of-briefing-materials-labeling-pro-life-organizations-as-terrorist-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the slide\u2019s authenticity to The Federalist on Thursday, claiming they were \u201cnot vetted by the appropriate approval authorities\u201d and \u201cwill no longer be used\u201d in future trainings. The office did not, however, respond to The Federalist\u2019s follow-up inquiry on whether the \u201clocal garrison employee\u201d responsible for creating the slides has been or will be punished or fired for their conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Ft. Liberty\u2019s statement asserts that the slides \u2018do not reflect the views of the \u2026 U.S. Army or the Department of Defense\u2019, the American people are rightfully concerned that training of this kind is being disseminated in the first place and possibly at other military installations,\u201d Republicans\u2019 letter to Wormuth reads. \u201cThe American people deserve to be assured that these slides truly do not reflect the Army\u2019s views, that a full investigation will be conducted, and that any offending employees will be properly held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aba79db4c9cbd79d761c3a02a0f7e83e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aba79db4c9cbd79d761c3a02a0f7e83e\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"metb\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Smearing pro-life Americans as terrorists is despicable. They additionally requested the Army secretary explain what specific actions the branch is taking \u201cto investigate the distribution of training materials depicting Pro-Life Americans as terrorists\u201d and what \u201cstatutes or Army regulations were potentially violated and what action is the Army taking with regard to any offending employee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Demands that Wormuth commit to conducting an \u201cinstallation-by-installation review\u201d to determine whether such materials are being used at other bases and ensuring they will no longer be utilized by the Army are also included in the letter.
