href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/att\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>AT&#038;T<\/a>\u2019s customers between May 1, 2022, and Oct. 31, 2022, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/att-addresses-illegal-download-of-customer-data-302195733.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n<p>AT&#038;T said it learned in April the data was illegally downloaded from the company\u2019s workspace on a third-party cloud platform.<\/p>\n<p>The compromised data includes files containing call and text records of nearly all of AT&#038;T\u2019s cellular customers, wireless network customers, and landline customers over the six-month period in 2022, as well as records from Jan. 2, 2023, for a small number of customers, the company said. <\/p>\n<p>The records identify the telephone numbers an AT&#038;T cellular number interacted with during those time periods. They do not contain the content of calls or texts, personally identifiable information such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Social Security<\/a> numbers or dates of birth, or the timestamps of calls and texts.<\/p>\n<p>The company warned that although the data does not include the names of customers, there are ways to find the name linked to a telephone number using publicly available online tools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this time, we do not believe that the data is publicly available,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>AT&#038;T said it launched an investigation and is working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>law enforcement<\/a> to arrest those involved in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that at least one person has been apprehended,\u201d AT&#038;T said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/ix?doc=\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0000732717\/000073271724000046\/t-20240506.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> in an SEC filing that it has taken additional cybersecurity measures in response to the data breach, including closing off the illegal access point.
