Hosted by Trevor Noah, the semi-socially distanced ceremony <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cardi-b-performs-wap-and-other-key-moments-from-the-grammys\">celebrated<\/a> last year\u2019s musical heroes, with notable awards going to Beyonc\u00e9 Knowles, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, social media and headlines alike were dominated by one topic: Cardi B\u2019s performance of her hit song, \u201cWAP.\u201d Alongside Megan Thee Stallion on stage for the first time, they brought the monumentally popular song to life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Media members couldn\u2019t celebrate the performance more enthusiastically if they tried. CNN\u2019s Chloe Melas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/14\/entertainment\/cardi-b-and-megan-thee-stallion-grammys-performance\/index.html\">described<\/a> it as a \u201cvery sex-positive performance.\u201d \u201cThey gloriously twerked and strutted and owned the stage in Barbarella-esque outfits, referencing female empowerment, sexual pride and delivering undoubtedly one of the most memorable Grammy performances of all time,\u201d she<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/14\/entertainment\/cardi-b-and-megan-thee-stallion-grammys-performance\/index.html\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>People magazine<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/grammys-2021-best-moments-of-the-night\/?slide=0f4d4f20-b0c5-4671-8df2-f9aa119ca860#0f4d4f20-b0c5-4671-8df2-f9aa119ca860\"><span>described<\/span><\/a> <span>the performance as \u201cprovocative,\u201d saying that \u201cIf it existed, the trophy for the night\u2019s most jaw-dropping moment would\u2019ve gone to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Variety <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/music\/news\/cardi-b-megan-thee-stallion-wap-grammys-1234930238\/\">viewed<\/a> the onstage spectacle as \u201cjaw-dropping,\u201d saying that \u201cthe song\u2019s message of sexual empowerment remained clear.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For those who aren\u2019t aware, the song\u2019s message begins with the lines \u201cI said, certified freak, seven days a week, wet-a** p**** make that pull-out game weak,\u201d and only continues to further demonstrate its Shakespearean lyrical genius. \u201cBring a bucket and a mop for this wet-a** p****,\u201d \u201cSpit in my mouth, look in my eyes, this p**** is wet, come take a dive,\u201d and \u201cGobble me, swallow me, drip down the side of me,\u201d are just a few highlights. Perhaps rivaling only Oscar Wilde in terms of creative artistry, the masterpiece ends with \u201cThere\u2019s some whores in this house. There\u2019s some whores in this house.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These lines were delivered as Cardi B gyrated on a stripper pole, before joining Megan Thee Stallion on a bed to writhe around, mimicking sexual acts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While conservatives are mocked for their \u201cpearl clutching,\u201d it\u2019s important to understand that the issue here is not necessarily the content of the \u201csong,\u201d or even the manner in which it was performed. The problem is the context of the society in which it is lauded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>WAP, which if you haven\u2019t already guessed is an acronym for \u201cWet A** P****,\u201d exists in a world which celebrates such performances as expressions of \u201csex positivity\u201d and \u201cfemale empowerment.\u201d This is the same world which now seeks to erase certain Dr. Seuss books for apparently portraying people in \u201cways that are hurtful and wrong,\u201d in which Disney hides Peter Pan and Dumbo from children due to \u201coutdated\u201d depictions, and in which French cartoon skunks are canceled for perpetuating \u201crape culture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It is simply impossible to argue that Dr. Seuss, Dumbo, and Pepe Le Pew must be eradicated from our society for various moral offenses, but that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion\u2019s performance on Sunday evening is one of empowerment that must be celebrated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If Pepe Le Pew is canceled for perpetuating rape culture, for example, then it is absurd to claim that Cardi B is not perpetuating that same supposed culture by \u2014 albeit willingly \u2014 presenting herself as an easily accessible sexual object on a stripper pole as men in the audience cheer her on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We are witnessing the growth of a culture where children are often more likely to watch Cardi B grind on a pole than the Dumbo or Peter Pan movies, all while the former stripper tells audience members that she wants them \u201cto park that big Mack truck right in this little garage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What could possibly go wrong?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
