The \u2064United States, Canada, and Finland have agreed to collaborate\u200d on building up their \u2064icebreaker fleets to strengthen their defenses in the Arctic. The pact includes enhanced information sharing<\/a> on icebreaker production, training opportunities in each country’s shipyards, \u2063and promoting \u200cthe purchase of icebreakers from American, Finnish,\u2062 or Canadian shipyards. This \u200c collaboration aims<\/a> to increase the \u2064competitive edge of the U.S. and its \u2063allies against adversaries like Russia and China. The U.S. currently has only two icebreakers, while Finland has 12, Canada has nine,\u2063 and Russia has 36. President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb discussed the pact at\u2063 a summit focused on countering Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The U.S. Coast Guard is in need of new icebreakers,\u200b as the last heavy polar icebreaker was built\u200d almost 50 years ago<\/a>. <\/p>\n
