Lanon Baccam, a first-time\u2063 candidate and \u200bformer official with the U.S. Department\u2064 of Agriculture, is running to reclaim Iowa\u2019s 3rd Congressional \u2062District from the Republicans. National Democrats are supporting Baccam&#8217;s campaign, as\u2063 they\u2064 believe he has a good chance of winning. The district, which \u200bincludes Des Moines, narrowly voted for Donald Trump in the last election. Baccam&#8217;s opponent, incumbent Rep. Baccam is looking to flip Iowa\u2019s 3rd Congressional District blue after Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA) flipped the seat red in the midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>The months of April, May, and June were Baccam\u2019s highest in terms of fundraising since he entered the race in November. Nunn has not yet announced his fundraising haul for the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n<p>National Democrats are eyeing the seat Baccam and Nunn are fighting to claim as they believe Baccam can flip it blue once again. Baccam <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Iowa%27s_3rd_Congressional_District\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>easily won<\/a> the primary against his Democratic opponent.<\/p>\n<p>The district encompasses Iowa\u2019s capital and most populous city, Des Moines. After redistricting, Iowa\u2019s 3rd Congressional District would have voted for former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden by just 1 percentage point in the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Nunn faced then-Rep. Cindy Axne and narrowly won the race by a little over 2,000 votes. Cook Political Report currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/ratings\/house-race-ratings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>labels<\/a> the district as \u201cLeans Republican\u201d by 3 percentage points. <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/07\/11\/congress\/dems-best-iowa-hope-nunn-house-fundraising-baccam-00167492\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Politico<\/em><\/a>, there isn\u2019t much polling on the district, but a survey from Baccam\u2019s campaign conducted by GQR Research shows both candidates tied at 43%. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the resources to build his profile in the four months before Election Day, Lanon Baccam will be well-positioned to flip this crucial seat,\u201d the survey memo said.<\/p>\n<p>A June poll from the<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/politics\/iowa-poll\/2024\/06\/21\/iowa-poll-republicans-preferred-by-likely-iowa-voters-in-4-congressional-districts-gop\/74060552007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Des Moines Register<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/politics\/iowa-poll\/2024\/06\/21\/iowa-poll-republicans-preferred-by-likely-iowa-voters-in-4-congressional-districts-gop\/74060552007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>\/Mediacom Iowa<\/a> using a generic ballot shows all four of Iowa\u2019s\u00a0congressional districts leaning toward Republicans.
