House Democrats\u200d near-unanimously opposed the bill, dismissing it as \u2062racist fearmongering. \u2064Republicans argue that the bill is necessary to ensure the integrity of American elections, especially in \u200dlight of the increasing influx of illegal immigrants. The \u2062article\u200c highlights the\u200d divisive debate between Democrats and Republicans\u2064 on the issue of voter ID laws and immigration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>If Democrats were serious about restoring American confidence in \u201cdemocracy,\u201d they would have unanimously backed legislation to ensure noncitizens don\u2019t cast ballots. Instead, House Democrats near-unanimously opposed such a bill\u2019s passage Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/8281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act<\/a> made it through the lower chamber after lawmakers narrowly voted 221-198 to send the bill requiring documentary proof of citizenship to vote for president and Congress over to the Senate. Just five Democrats voted for the bill after the left-wing party dismissed the legislation as an instrument of racist \u201cfearmongering\u201d planted by \u201cthe extreme MAGA Republicans\u201d to keep nonwhites from voting. This is what Rep. Summer Lee, D-Pa., had to say during Wednesday\u2019s debate on the House floor:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Republicans want to throw up barriers because when people vote, they lose. Let me be clear, they don\u2019t want you to vote. They don\u2019t want to hear black voices, brown voices, LGBTQIA voices, young voices. Our fundamental access to our democracy is being politicized. And this xenophobic attack that we\u2019re debating today will make it harder for Americans to vote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And here\u2019s what happened when the Daily Wire went around East Harlem asking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-lost-all-credibility-on-social-distancing-after-biden-celebrations\/\" title=\"Dems Lost All Credibility On Social Distancing After Biden Celebrations\">black people<\/a> if they had IDs or had any problem getting IDs, as opponents of voter ID laws often suggest:<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ami Horowitz: Do Voter ID Laws Suppress the Black Vote?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DCytgANu010?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWho are these people talking to?\u201d one woman asked the interviewer. <\/p>\n<p>Probably Hakeem Jeffries. The SAVE Act, the House minority leader said Wednesday, was \u201cdesigned to jam people up and prevent Americans from voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Joseph Morelle, D-N.Y., also delivered a hysterical tirade on the House floor, claiming, \u201cRepublicans are pushing a bill that will disenfranchise U.S. military personnel protecting us overseas from registering.\u201d Yeah, imagine a single human being in the U.S. military who couldn\u2019t get ahold of a military identification card, ID, or passport, among other things, to prove his or her citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, went on the House floor to rail against the \u201cabsolute resistance and lies\u201d coming from Democrats opposed to efforts to keep American elections conducted solely by American citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re telling the American people very plainly and clearly, it is their preference that noncitizens vote in American elections,\u201d Roy said. \u201cThey\u2019re destroying our borders. They\u2019re allowing people to flood into our country. Millions of people being released in the United States \u2026 and now, all we simply want to do is ensure the integrity of American elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\u201cAll we simply want to do is ensure the integrity of American elections, and what we see is absolute resistance and lies from our colleagues on the other side of the aisle!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd0aRep. Chip Roy Press Office (@RepChipRoy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepChipRoy\/status\/1811111500032983533?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 10, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>More than 7.2 million illegals have entered the United States under President Joe Biden, a population greater than 36 states, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/21\/us-news\/7-2m-illegals-entered-the-us-under-biden-admin-an-amount-greater-than-population-of-36-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according <\/a>to Fox News. Other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2455010\/illegal-border-crossers-total-over-10-million-since-biden-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estimates<\/a> put the total well over 10 million, \u201cmore than the individual populations of 41 states,\u201d according to the Washington Examiner in October of last year. Numbers have only continued to climb since then. Gallup surveys show Americans are overwhelmingly concerned about the issue of <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/611135\/immigration-surges-top-important-problem-list.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unchecked immigration<\/a>, and roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/403052\/eight-americans-favor-early-voting-photo-laws.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">8 in 10<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2024\/02\/07\/bipartisan-support-for-early-in-person-voting-voter-id-election-day-national-holiday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">support<\/a> voter ID laws.<\/p>\n<p>Federalist Senior Elections Correspondent Matt Kittle on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/10\/theres-only-one-reason-democrats-oppose-requiring-proof-of-citizenship-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> that Democrats have benefited greatly from blocking legislation that attempts to keep noncitizens from voting in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-campaign-files-lawsuit-to-overturn-fraudulent-election-in-georgia\/\" title=\"TRUMP CAMPAIGN Files Lawsuit to Overturn Fraudulent Election in Georgia\">local elections<\/a>, such as in our nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost House Democrats earlier this year <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/4682298-house-passes-ban-noncitizens-voting-local-dc-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted against a measure<\/a> that would have barred illegal immigrants and other noncitizens from voting in local elections in the nation\u2019s capital. The bill is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/23\/us\/politics\/house-passes-measure-to-repeal-dc-noncitizen-voting-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deemed dead on arrival<\/a> in the Senate,\u201d Kittle reported. \u201cNot surprisingly, just 28 of the 500-plus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/frederick-is-the-latest-maryland-city-trying-to-let-foreign-nationals-influence-its-elections\/\" title=\"Frederick, Maryland seeks foreign nationals&#039; involvement in elections.\">foreign nationals voting<\/a> in last month\u2019s D.C. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/save-act-heads-to-house-floor-to-stop-noncitizen-vote\/\" title=\"SAVE Act Heads To House Floor To Stop Noncitizen Vote\">primary elections registered<\/a> as Republicans, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ReelTalker\/status\/1798352663396200648\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> The Washington Post.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So why wouldn\u2019t they capitalize on those margins at the federal level too?<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
