claimed to have met with the judge who oversaw the former president\u2019s civil fraud trial, according to a court <a href=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/fbem\/DocumentDisplayServlet?documentId=mrgZC4uVC1_PLUS_JcLia7ubb7w==&#038;system=prod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">order.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Judge Arthur Engoron denied portions of Trump\u2019s subpoena but determined that it was \u201cnot wholly without merit,\u201d the judge wrote in the order, filed Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s attorneys had requested to issue a subpoena for documents to New York-based lawyer Adam Bailey after Bailey told a local NBC affiliate that he privately spoke with Engoron about the case weeks before Engoron announced his verdict against Trump in it.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey \u201cboasted\u201d to the media about the meeting, Engoron said, observing that he had to allow some form of Trump\u2019s subpoena for that reason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Bailey has opened the door by making his extraordinary claims to the media, in which he, by his own admission, stated that he attempted to offer unsolicited legal advice to this Court,\u201d Engoron wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Engoron found Trump liable for years of business fraud, and in February, he affirmed the finding and ordered Trump and Trump Organization executives to pay $454 million in damages and interest.<\/p>\n<p>NBC New York reported on Bailey\u2019s conversation with Engoron three months later, prompting an ethics probe into whether it was appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Engoron denied through a spokesperson at the time that anything \u201cuntoward\u201d had occurred with Bailey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo ex <a any other person,\u201d spokesman Al Baker <a href=\"https:\/\/lawandcrime.com\/high-profile\/judge-who-oversaw-trump-civil-fraud-trial-reportedly-under-investigation-by-judicial-oversight-body-for-hallway-chat-with-lawyer-who-says-they-talked-about-the-case-before-verdict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a>. \u201cThe decision Justice Engoron issued February 16 was his alone, was deeply considered, and was wholly uninfluenced by this individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2885247\/trump-begins-appeal-454-million-civil-business-fraud-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"appealing Engoron's verdict\">appealing Engoron\u2019s verdict<\/a>, still requested to issue a sweeping subpoena for documents of Bailey\u2019s communications that could shed
