The moment came during a debate on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/save-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SAVE Act<\/a>, a GOP bill that would require individuals to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Refusing to address <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/13\/without-the-save-act-the-only-thing-keeping-foreigners-from-voting-is-the-honor-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">existing loopholes<\/a> that open the door for illegal aliens to register and vote in federal elections, New York Democrat Joe Morelle, ranking member on the House Administration Committee, pivoted to attacking Donald Trump and Republicans\u2019 lawful challenging of the 2020 election results. Included in this barrage of dishonesty was an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/02\/the-lefts-phony-fake-electors-crusade-ramps-up-as-2024-election-draws-closer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">often-repeated Democrat lie<\/a> that the GOP electors who voted for Trump during the 2020 certification process were \u201cfake.\u201d<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7abfc92ccdb8884a8c77b4bb4516f01a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7abfc92ccdb8884a8c77b4bb4516f01a\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere were criminal efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-orders-release-of-trump-white-house-visitor-logs-to-jan-6-committee\/\" title=\"Biden Orders Release of Trump White House Visitor Logs to Jan. 6 Committee\">send false slates<\/a> of electors to Washington to steal the presidency from Joe Biden,\u201d Morelle hyperbolically <a href=\"https:\/\/live.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fumed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the New York Democrat\u2019s claim, the naming of contingent Republican electors during the 2020 cycle was neither unprecedented nor unlawful. In fact, the process conducted in contested states such as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/01\/exclusive-fani-willis-possesses-evidence-exonerating-georgias-alternate-electors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Georgia<\/a> parallels a similar endeavor that took place during the 1960 presidential election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist\u2019s Margot Cleveland\u00a0previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/15\/the-lefts-2020-fake-electors-narrative-is-fake-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Kennedy and Nixon electors cast their votes for their respective candidates when a disagreement arose over who won Hawaii\u2019s electoral votes. This includes Democrat attorneys general in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/04\/25\/kris-mayes-indictment-fake-election-scheme-18-charges-donald-trump-connections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arizona<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/05\/wisconsin-ag-files-phony-fake-elector-charges-anyway-after-admitting-gop-plan-was-legal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wisconsin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/24\/judge-throws-out-leftist-nevada-ags-phony-fake-electors-case-against-trump-supporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nevada<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/michigan-ag-charges-16-false-electors-donald-trump-2020-presidential-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michigan<\/a>. Fulton County DA Fani Willis also brought such charges against <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/01\/exclusive-fani-willis-possesses-evidence-exonerating-georgias-alternate-electors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Georgia Republicans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Nevada judge <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/24\/judge-throws-out-leftist-nevada-ags-phony-fake-electors-case-against-trump-supporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a> Democrat AG Aaron Ford\u2019s charges against the Silver State\u2019s 2020 GOP electors last month. <\/p>\n<p>As my colleague Jordan Boyd previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/19\/as-michigan-charges-trump-electors-with-felonies-recall-how-leftists-everywhere-urged-2016-electors-to-defect-to-hillary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highlighted<\/a>, Democrats and their media allies had no problem \u201ccalling for electoral disobedience\u201d after Trump won the 2016 election.
