Although much of her presentation focused on COVID-19, the federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/museum\/timeline\/covid19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> have said that the first case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/woman-fired-refusing-covid-vaccine-gets-lucrative-last-laugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19<\/a> in America was diagnosed in January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m OK now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Violet Affleck: \u201cTo confront the Long COVID crisis I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC light in government facilities, including jails and detention centers and mask mandates in county medical facilities. We must expand availability of tests and treatment.\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zg4b7Z9vxy\">pic.twitter.com\/zg4b7Z9vxy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dr. Lucky Tran (@luckytran) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/luckytran\/status\/1810866725941878915?\">July 10, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOne in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people\u2019s ability to work, see, move and even think,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s known as \u201clong COVID\u201d leaves individuals suffering from fatigue, lethargy, memory loss, inability to focus, and exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>Affleck said increases in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/study-long-covid-children-much-less-dangerous-widespread-previously-feared\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">long COVID<\/a> would \u201cexacerbate our homelessness crisis, as well as the suffering of many people in our city. It hits communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, women and anyone in a public-facing essential job the hardest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must expand the availability of free tests and treatment and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Mask bans] do not keep us safer, they make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together,\u201d Affleck continued.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she might impose a mask ban on protesters amid anti-Israel unrest, according to  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2024\/07\/10\/violet-affleck-health-board-meeting\/74350234007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center said \u201cbans on the use of masks strongly inhibit one of the options that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-to-show-lockdowns-are-killing-more-people-than-the-virus\/\" title=\"How To Show Lockdowns Are Killing More People Than The Virus\">public health<\/a> has to reduce the impact of pandemics in our population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cases of COVID-19 are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-study-shows-covid-vaccines-may-increased-excess-deaths-since-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increasing<\/a> over the summer, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#maps_positivity-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC<\/a>, with the greatest concentration of cases in California, Nevada and Arizona.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
