return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &#038; Email\"><span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>A deputy U.S. marshal used a firearm to thwart an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., while protecting the residence of notoriously anti-Second Amendment Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.<\/p>\n<p>Eighteen-year-old Kentrell Flowers allegedly pulled a gun on one of the two deputy U.S. marshals parked outside of Sotomayor\u2019s residence around 1:15 a.m., The New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/09\/us-news\/supreme-court-justice-sotomayors-bodyguard-shoots-would-be-carjacker-outside-her-home\/?utm_medium=social&#038;utm_campaign=nypost&#038;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. Sotomayor was reportedly not home at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-dd231d515bbf670c1957b5de64c9a9ff fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-dd231d515bbf670c1957b5de64c9a9ff\"><\/div>\n<p>One marshal reportedly drew a firearm and shot the suspect, who was later treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. Flowers has been charged with \u201carmed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a large capacity magazine,\u201d the New York Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, during Sotomayor\u2019s nomination hearing she claimed to have accepted the Supreme Court\u2019s earlier decision establishing the individual right to keep and bear arms in <em>District of Columbia v. Heller<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand \u2026 how important the right to bear arms is to many, many Americans,\u201d Sotomayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/world\/us\/sotomayor-accepts-gun-rights-decision-idUSTRE56D3Y9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">testified<\/a>. \u201cAnd I have friends who hunt. I understand the individual right fully that the Supreme Court recognized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As with most left-wing hacks, once in office her tune changed. Sotomayor signed onto the 2010 dissent in <em>McDonald v. Chicago<\/em> to argue the Second Amendment does not guarantee the right to self-defense.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a6c696cd59f4ee3e82e49655f9891288 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a6c696cd59f4ee3e82e49655f9891288\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe carrying of arms for [self-defense] often puts others\u2019 lives at risk,\u201d Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/supct\/html\/08-1521.ZD1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">minority<\/a>. \u201cIn sum, the Framers did not write the Second Amendment in order to protect a private right of armed self defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But as my colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2018\/11\/29\/second-amendment-always-individual-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Harsanyi<\/a> pointed out, \u201chistory has never backed up this contention \u2026 The notion of individual ownership of firearms was so unmistakable and so omnipresent in colonial days \u2014 and beyond \u2014 that Americans saw no more need to debate its existence than they did the right to drink water or breathe the air.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor, writing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/23pdf\/22-915_8o6b.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concurring opinion<\/a> in <em>United States v. Rahimi<\/em>, all but endorsed Congressional efforts to erase constitutional rights based off partisan, fleeting whims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my view, the Second Amendment allows legislators \u2018to take account of the serious problems posed by gun violence\u2019 not merely by asking what their predecessors at the time of the founding or Reconstruction thought, but by listening to other constituents and crafting new and appropriately tailored solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6c7c6b1e72fb24a5cbb952053c06445b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6c7c6b1e72fb24a5cbb952053c06445b\"><\/div>\n<p>Sotomayor also joined a dissent in 2022 in the landmark <em>Bruen<\/em> decision lamenting that purely partisan leaders would be hamstringed in their efforts to strip Americans of their fundamental right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany States have tried to address some of the dangers of gun violence just described by passing laws that limit, in various ways, who may purchase, carry, or use firearms of different kinds,\u201d Breyer wrote for the minority. \u201cThe Court today severely burdens States\u2019 efforts to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my view, when courts interpret the Second Amendment, it is constitutionally proper, indeed often necessary, for them to consider the serious dangers and consequences of gun violence that lead States to regulate firearms,\u201d the dissent continued. <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cgun violence\u201d referred to is the same \u201cgun violence\u201d that could have killed Sotomayor\u2019s bodyguard. Washington, D.C., has put in regulations in-part hoping to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-announce-executive-action-on-guns-thursday-plans-to-outlaw-ghost-guns\/\" title=\"Biden To Announce Executive Action On Guns Thursday, Plans To Outlaw \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\">curb gun violence<\/a>, but they\u2019ve been largely ineffective.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s why former Trump administration official <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/4447433-former-trump-official-dies-after-being-shot-in-dc-carjacking-spree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mike Gill<\/a> \u2014 who wasn\u2019t as fortunate to have armed security like Sotomayor \u2014 was murdered in January during a similar carjacking incident in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>Despite liberals\u2019 naivety, criminals don\u2019t follow laws. But Sotomayor lacks that understanding. <\/p>\n<p>If Sotomayor had things her way, ordinary Americans would be defenseless against teen thugs who are willing to use deadly force while elites like herself can rest assured knowing they\u2019re protected by men with guns \u2014 whether or not they\u2019re even home!<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor\u2019s life is not any more valuable than Mike Gill\u2019s, the U.S. marshal\u2019s, or even mine.
