I thought he was just showboating before he set it on the ground. I didn\u2019t realize he had already lit it,\u201d she said, according to the Post and Courier.<\/p>\n<p>Paige McGrew said he husband always went all-out to show his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hardware-store-owner-shows-off-patriotism-massive-american-flag-painted-roof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">patriotism<\/a> on the Fourth of July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllen loved this holiday,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was a patriot; he was proud of his son and he was excited to have a new daughter-in-law. He was living his best life last night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She recalled a recent visit of her husband to her office to show off the red, white and blue outfit he bought for this year\u2019s celebration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was on the phone with a client and I just lost it, I was laughing so hard. I had to tell her what was going on. The client said, \u2018Oh, I have to see this,\u2019 so Allen came around in front of the camera to show off his costume. That was Allen. He was a genuine, good person and he loved life. He worked hard and he played hard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Paige McGrew made it clear her husband was not a big <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/9-seconds-famin-9-seconds-familys-july-4-goes-happy-horrifying-huge-fireworks-box-explodes-onceilys-july-4-goes-happy-horrifying-huge-fireworks-box-explodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drinker.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone was drinking a little last night, but he didn\u2019t drink regularly,\u201d she said the day after the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loved this country and looked forward to celebrating every year,\u201d Paige McGrew told the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/06\/us-news\/traumatized-family-recalls-showboating-dads-final-moments-before-he-died-from-firework-exploding-on-his-head\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust before the incident happened, he hugged me and his son and said, \u2018You are my rock, and you are my heart.\u2019 Me being his rock and his son being his heart,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbors and Paige McGrew told the Post and Courier that Allen McGrew would mow lawns for his\u00a0neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was the nicest guy.
