While he initially believed it \u201ccouldn\u2019t be real,\u201d Moore noticed the fabric did appear \u201cauthentically old,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/lifestyle\/history-enthusiast-finds-artifact-belonging-george-washington-goodwill-very-unusual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said the fabric included a note, which read \u201ca piece of George Washington\u2019s tent, from the history building at Jamestown exposition 1907 property of John Burns, Dec. 23, 1907.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A piece of former President George Washington\u2019s tent on display at the Museum of the American Revolution. (Courtesy of the Museum of the American Revolution)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe brief handwritten note referencing the Jamestown Exposition of 1907, which was attached with a rusty pin, added to the feeling of age,\u201d he explained. \u201cMy gut kept telling me this could be real.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The piece is currently on display at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pennsylvania<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Museum of the American Revolution is honored to display this newly discovered fragment as part of our current special exhibition, <em>Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington\u2019s Tent<\/em>,\u201d read a statement from the museum to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cOnly nine fragments of Washington\u2019s tents are known to exist, all in the collections of museums or other institutions, including three in our Museum\u2019s collection. This is the only known fragment in private hands, though there may be more out there waiting to be discovered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Skic, the museum\u2019s curator of exhibitions, explained that Mary Custis Lee, the great-great-granddaughter of former first lady Martha Washington, owned Washington\u2019s tents from the Revolutionary War in 1907. They help us realize the hard work and perseverance that was required to create this nation and is still required to safeguard its future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s wife, Susan Bowen, explained that she was initially skeptical about her husband\u2019s historical purchase but chose to contact the museum in Philadelphia after watching an online presentation from it about the artifact.
