The \u200cletter was criticized for containing delusions and lies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-files-powerhouse-motion-to-hold-jack-smith-in-contempt-of-court\/\" title=\"Trump seeks to hold Jack Smith in contempt of court with a &#039;PowerHouse&#039; motion\">including false claims<\/a> \u2062about former President Donald\u200b Trump&#8217;s energy policies, intentions to cut Social\u2062 Security and Medicare benefits, and the current administration&#8217;s impact on lowering costs for\u2064 Americans. The letter&#8217;s claims\u2064 were refuted with evidence and fact-checking, highlighting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-headquarters-will-move-to-new-home-in-maryland\/\" title=\"FBI Headquarters will move to new home in Maryland\">ongoing political debates<\/a> and the efforts \u2062to discredit opponents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In a frantic attempt to shore up flagging support within his party, President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1810301614965604827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sent<\/a> an open letter to Democrats on Monday riddled with delusions and lies.<\/p>\n<p>Following widespread criticism after his dismal first debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to be the Democrat nominee, citing his track record and what he\u00a0suggested is his electoral strength against his Republican opponent. <\/p>\n<p>Here are three delusional lies from the letter.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. Trump Will Bend to the Will of Oil Donors Upon Receiving Substantial Campaign Donations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Biden addressed his competitor\u2019s energy policy, stating, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t an isolated moment for Trump to stand at Mar-A-Lago and tell the oil industry they should give him $1 billion and he will do whatever they want.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/09\/climate\/trump-oil-gas-mar-a-lago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that in May, two attendees at an energy round table campaign event held at Mar-a-Lago heard the former president promise that his policies would benefit oil companies. <\/p>\n<p>There is not, however, proof that Trump will \u201cdo whatever they [the companies] want,\u201d as Biden proposed in his letter. <\/p>\n<p>The Times has also noted that Biden himself has not been hard on oil as he insists; U.S. oil production has supposedly reached an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/12\/01\/business\/energy-environment\/us-oil-production-record-climate.html?searchResultPosition=22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all-time high<\/a> under the Biden administration,\u00a0even as the production isn\u2019t reflected in energy prices. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe [Biden] has authorized an enormous $8 billion oil development in Alaska known as the Willow project,\u201d The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/09\/climate\/trump-oil-gas-mar-a-lago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cHe also granted a crucial permit for the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a project championed by Senator Joe Manchin III, a West Virginia Democrat, despite opposition from climate experts and environmental groups.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>It was reported that Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/09\/climate\/trump-oil-gas-mar-a-lago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Trump is \u201csupported by people who share his vision of American energy dominance to protect our national security and bring down the cost of living for all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. Trump Plans to Cut Social Security and Medicare Benefits<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Biden continued to assert that the former president \u201cwant[s] another $5 trillion in tax cuts for rich people so they can cut Social Security and Medicare.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly affirmed that he has no plans to cut Social Security or Medicare benefits for Americans. <\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign has consistently peddled this lie, going back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2024\/03\/trumps-comments-about-cutting-entitlements-in-context\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">March<\/a> of this year. <\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/03\/11\/cnbc-transcript-former-president-of-the-united-states-donald-trump-speaks-with-cnbcs-squawk-box-today-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with CNBC\u2019s Joe Kernen, Trump was asked about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pointing-to-national-debt-ratings-agency-issues-negative-outlook-for-us-aaa-creditworthiness\/\" title=\"Pointing To National Debt, Ratings Agency Issues \u2018Negative Outlook\u2019 For US \u2018AAA\u2019 Creditworthiness\">rising national debt<\/a> and his opinion on entitlements such as Medicare and Social Security, and specifically if cutting those entitlements would aid in lessening the national debt. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo first of all, there is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements in terms of cutting\u00a0and in terms of also the theft and the bad management of entitlements, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whoopi-snaps-at-trump-says-if-he-touches-entitlements-we-could-put-you-in-jail\/\" title=\"Whoopi warns Trump: Hands off entitlements or face jail\">tremendous bad management<\/a> of entitlements,\u201d Trump said. \u201cSo I don\u2019t necessarily agree with the statement. I know that they\u2019re going to end up weakening Social Security because the country is weak.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Trump explicitly stated that he does not agree with Kernen\u2019s question, and referenced that fixing the bad management and waste in these entitlement programs is a possible step forward. The Biden campaign ran with it, drawing unfair and inaccurate conclusions about Trump\u2019s statement. <\/p>\n<p>The Biden camp continued to call out Trump on entitlement programs, to which the Trump campaign replied in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1767167929957695718?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post<\/a> on X, \u201cIf you losers didn\u2019t cut his answer short, you would know President Trump was talking about cutting waste,\u201d not the actual programs, as Biden insists. <\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. The Biden Administration Is Currently Lowering Costs for Americans<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The president claimed that his policies are actively \u201clowering costs for families \u2014 from health care to prescription drugs to student debt to housing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In reality, Biden\u2019s policies have resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-economy-worse-than-white-house-claims\/\" title=\"US Economy in Worse Shape Than White House Claims\">cumulative inflation<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/4663651-inflation-hits-20-percent-under-biden-pushing-small-businesses-to-the-brink\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20 percent<\/a> and prices that are rising more quickly than Americans\u2019 incomes. Biden hasn\u2019t \u201clower[ed] costs for families.\u201d Rather, \u201cgrocery prices have increased by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13398351\/Biden-blasted-clueless-claiming-Americans-money-inflation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly one-third<\/a> and gas has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&#038;s=emm_epm0_pte_nus_dpg&#038;f=m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">risen by 50 percent<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cit now costs the average American family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/inflation-households-need-extra-11400-these-states-its-even-higher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$12,000 more<\/a> to maintain the same living standards as before Biden took office.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Inflation reached a peak of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/inflation-up-20-percent-since-biden-took-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">9.1 percent<\/a> in June 2022, almost halfway through Biden\u2019s term. Even with inflation slowly decreasing, hitting just over 3 percent in May, prices are still sky-high. The cumulative 20 percent inflation figure represents the overall increase in inflation since the president\u2019s inauguration, with pre-Biden era inflation ringing in at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/story\/fact-check-biden-says-inflation-was-9-when-i-came-to-office\/21449006\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.4 percent<\/a>, below the Federal Reserve\u2019s goal of 2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/644750\/confidence-biden-economic-stewardship-historically-low.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gallup poll<\/a> from May 2024 revealed that only 38 percent of Americans have confidence that Biden is doing the right thing for the economy. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/graphics\/USA-BIDEN\/POLL\/nmopagnqapa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a>, the economy has been the most important issue to Americans for over ten consecutive weeks. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Kamden Mulder is a summer intern at The Federalist.
