Kirby after both the Court of Appeals and Tennessee Supreme Court receives requests for copies of briefs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time has come to make our filings available online,\u201d Tarwater said.<\/p>\n<p>The rules will need to include redaction policies, responsibility for redactions and how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-says-reports-about-sharing-sensitive-information-with-mar-a-lago-member-is-fake-news\/\" title=\"Trump denies sharing sensitive information with Mar-a-Lago member, calls it &#039;fake news&#039;.\">handle confidential information<\/a>, Tarwater said.<\/p>\n<p>The Administrator of the Courts will determine how the access would be provided and how long of a backlog of files would be available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a more complicated issues than you might think,\u201d Tarwater said.<\/p>\n<p>The quarterly commission meeting was available online after being forced open after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/article_00a3611e-c91a-11ed-a5f3-cb9e56b42537.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>March 2023 preliminary injunction<\/strong><\/a> in a lawsuit from The Center Square Vice President of News and Content Dan McCaleb.<\/p>\n<p>McCaleb is represented by the Liberty Justice Center.<\/p>\n<p>The group also livestreamed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/article_bc83354e-9606-11ee-8610-e736495e8caf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>December<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/article_33622340-f1de-11ee-81ea-fb3882f36766.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>April<\/strong><\/a> meetings.<\/p>\n<p>McCaleb sued on First Amendment grounds to open the meetings, where the committee discusses court rule changes that it will recommend the Tennessee General Assembly pass.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee Administrator of Courts Director Michelle Long and the department have continued to fight the lawsuit through the Tennessee Attorney General\u2019s office in an attempt to close the meetings.<\/p>\n<p>The commission voted at its June meeting to push to allow courts to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/article_b6aa9ca2-f358-11ee-a4bd-bbf1acc4dae8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">retain alternate jurors<\/a><\/strong> even after deliberations begin in a criminal case so cases do not have to be delayed or declared a mistrial if a juror becomes ill or is unable to continue after deliberations have begun in a case.<\/p>\n<p>If an alternate juror needs to be used, deliberations have to begin anew.<\/p>\n<p>The commission plans to meet again at 9 a.m. on Sept. 13, when it is expected to hear the proposal on putting filings online.<\/p>\n<p> <script data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/cdn-cgi\/scripts\/5c5dd728\/cloudflare-static\/email-decode.min.js\"><\/script><script>!function(){var g=window;g.googletag=g.googletag||{},g.googletag.cmd=g.googletag.cmd||[],g.googletag.cmd.push(function(){g.googletag.pubads().setTargeting(\"has-featured-video\",\"true\")})}();<\/script><script>var _bp=_bp||[];_bp.push({\"div\":\"Brid_1689775\",\"obj\":{\"id\":\"27789\",\"width\":\"1280\",\"height\":\"720\",\"stickyDirection\":\"below\",\"video\":\"1689775\"}});<\/script><script defer src=\"https:\/\/services.brid.tv\/player\/build\/brid.min.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><a class=\"tdb-logo-a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" title=\"Washington Examiner\"><span class=\"tdb-logo-img-wrap\"><\/span><span class=\"tdb-logo-text-wrap\"><span class=\"tdb-logo-text-title\">Washington Examiner<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/body><\/html><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tennessee courts are considering making court briefs available online, with a committee being formed to look into the rules for this process.
