The discovery of\u200b a 1,500-year-old Christian reliquary in Irschen, Austria sheds \u2064light on early Christian art and burial practices<\/a>. The ivory box was found in a marble shrine within a previously unknown<\/a> church. The pyx is richly\u2062 decorated with Christian motifs, including scenes from the Old and\u200d New Testaments. \u2062The relic is being carefully preserved and analyzed at the\u2064 University of Innsbruck. The find is extremely rare, with only around\u2064 40 similar ivory boxes known worldwide. The reliquary was likely left behind by Christian residents when they fled the hilltop settlement around 610 A.D. after a Slavic army defeated\u2063 local armies.
