<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>surgeries<\/a> should be limited to adults,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2024\/07\/white-house-statement-gender-affirming-surgery-minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> the<em> 19th News<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wave-of-lawmakers-demanding-investigation-into-vanderbilt-pediatric-gender-clinic\/\" title=\"Wave Of Lawmakers Demanding Investigation Into Vanderbilt Pediatric Gender Clinic\">support gender-affirming care<\/a> for minors, which represents a continuum of care, and respect the role of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>parents<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>families<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doctors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>doctors<\/a> in these decisions,\u201d they added. <\/p>\n<p>The statement sparked an immediate backlash from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lgbt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>LGBT<\/a> advocates, accusing the administration of betraying its pledge to support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/transgender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>transgender<\/a> youth and interfering in private medical choices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden administration is flat wrong on this,\u201d Kelley Robinson, president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/human-rights-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Human Rights Campaign<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/lgbtq\/4753693-white-house-gender-affirming-surgeries-limited-adults\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> the<em> Hill<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s wrong on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>science<\/a> and wrong on the substance. (Mikala Compton\/Austin American-Statesman via AP, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Allison Scott, director of impact and innovation at the Campaign for Southern Equality, described the administration\u2019s statement as \u201ccowardly.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a troubling concession to the right-wing assault on transgender Americans, falling for their false narratives about surgical care and betraying a commitment to equality and trust in the medical community,\u201d Scott said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Government<\/a> has no business inserting itself into private medical decisions that should be exclusively between patients, their providers, and the patient\u2019s parents or guardians,\u201d Scott added. <\/p>\n<p>The administration\u2019s statement contradicts the president\u2019s previous support for minors\u2019 gender-affirming care and opposition to state laws restricting or banning such treatments for youth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is dangerous to begin endorsing categorical bans or limits on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>healthcare<\/a>, and there is no justification for restricting transgender youth\u2019s access to the very same care that many cisgender youth receive every year \u2013 that\u2019s literally the definition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/discrimination\/v\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>discrimination<\/a>,\u201d Scott continued.\u00a0\u201cWe demand the Biden Administration retract this thoughtless statement and work to undo its damage.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Last month, in response to the Biden administration\u2019s request, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Supreme Court<\/a> announced it would review the constitutionality of bans on gender-affirming medical care for minors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s wrong that extreme officials are pushing hateful bills targeting transgender children, terrifying families, and criminalizing doctors. These are our kids. These are our neighbors. It\u2019s cruel and it\u2019s callous,\u201d the spokesperson said in their recent statement, quoting a statement Biden made last summer. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, it was revealed that the staff of Adm.
