8% increase over 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.aaa.com\/2024\/06\/july-4th\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according<\/a> to the American Automobile Association (AAA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>summer<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vacation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>vacations<\/a> in full swing and the flexibility of <a (AP Photo\/Julio Cortez)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travel by car<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>AAA anticipates a record-breaking 60.6 million people will travel by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>car<\/a> this year, surpassing last year\u2019s estimates by 2.8 million travelers.<\/p>\n<p>This year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>gas prices<\/a> are lower nationally, with the current average at $3.491 per gallon as of Monday, down from $3.538 during the same period last year, according to AAA\u2019s gas <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>price tracker<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>However, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/v\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Washington D.C.<\/a>, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.665 on Monday.
