The survey, which included opinions \u200bfrom nearly 37,000 consumers globally, revealed that 46 percent\u200b of American EV owners were likely to opt for\u2062 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-unveils-toughest-ever-car-emissions-rules-to-try-to-force-electric-vehicle-purchases\/\" title=\"Biden Unveils Toughest-Ever Car Emissions Rules to Try to Force Electric Vehicle Purchases\">traditional gas-powered car<\/a> for their next purchase. Reasons cited for this shift included high costs, low familiarity with electric vehicles, skepticism of the technology,\u2064 and insufficient charging infrastructure. Despite the Biden administration&#8217;s promotion of \u2062electric vehicles to reduce\u2062 emissions, there\u200c remains significant resistance to EVs among American consumers.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Nearly half of American electric car owners expressed regret about their purchase and a desire to return to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kerry-biggest-thing-im-doing-in-my-lifestyle-to-fight-climate-change-is-traveling-around-the-world-doing-diplomacy\/\" title=\"Kerry: &#039;Biggest Thing I&#039;m Doing in My Lifestyle&#039; to Fight Climate Change &#039;Is Traveling Around the World&#039; Doing Diplomacy\">internal combustion engine vehicle<\/a>, according to a new survey.<\/p>\n<p>The McKinsey Mobility Consumer Pulse <a href=\"https:\/\/executivedigest.sapo.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobility-Consumer-Pulse-2024_Overview.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">survey<\/a> for 2024 found 46 percent of American electric vehicle owners were \u201cvery\u201d likely to opt for a traditional gas-powered car for their next purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Philipp Kampshoff, the head of McKinsey\u2019s Center for Future Mobility, was surprised by how many Americans were eager to move back to gas-powered vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t expect that,\u201d Kampshoff <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/mzB6h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Automotive News. \u201cI thought, \u2018Once an EV buyer, always an EV buyer.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/01\/young-people-are-figuring-out-that-evs-aint-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">If You Don\u2019t Want Buyer\u2019s Remorse, Don\u2019t Get An Electric Vehicle<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The McKinsey survey took opinions from nearly 37,000 consumers around the world, with only Australia reporting a higher percentage of electric car owners (49 percent) who said they are likely to choose a gas-powered car in the future. Pollsters also interviewed consumers in Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Norway. The average share of those who said they were likely to abandon the electric car craze across all nations included in the survey was 29 percent.<\/p>\n<p>High costs and low familiarity with electric vehicles along with skepticism of the technology were the highest barriers to embracing the electrical alternatives. Those most likely to buy electric cars were typically younger, wealthy, and urban. Insufficient charging infrastructure and total ownership costs were the most cited reasons for returning to gas-powered cars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, electric vehicles are the beneficiaries of billions in taxpayer subsidies and near-perfect coverage through a fawning press and yet they are still a massive failure,\u201d Larry Behrens, the communications director for Power the Future, told The Federalist. \u201cIt\u2019s clear the vast majority of Americans don\u2019t want to buy one and even those who signed on the dotted line are now expressing regret.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Despite the resistance and regret, the Biden administration has aggressively promoted the vehicles as a centerpiece of White House plans to reduce emissions. In April, more than two dozen attorneys general <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/18\/more-than-two-dozen-ags-sue-biden-administration-over-ev-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a> the federal government over the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/21\/bidens-new-ev-mandate-is-a-bloodbath-for-consumers-carmakers-and-the-climate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electric vehicle mandate<\/a>. The EPA had announced a month earlier that car manufacturers must reduce \u201cfleetwide average carbon emissions\u201d by 56 percent over eight years. The regulations would require the industry to produce and sell more electric vehicles well beyond demand.<\/p>\n<p>According to an Ipsos <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/new-yahoo-finance-ipsos-poll-shows-over-half-of-americans-unlikely-to-buy-an-ev-130040140.html?guccounter=1&#038;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYnVzaW5lc3NpbnNpZGVyLmNvbS8&#038;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAHCj3rAXRddupp4jQ0RD5ybkdlH9QD6ozCH7nt1UPGabRa7AXPQHpi3H29PeIwcFehnHAu_SKziGMYwyXSrFNuOgcTOC6ockywLS2aczsWl2QpRjT5yqUYZlmIWYO5p8pawJ4Lqqzsqp5Zfb_0KGthQb8F1O4h2FTv-U2tVynUsg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> with Yahoo Finance conducted last fall, 57 percent of the more than 1,000 Americans surveyed reported they were unlikely to purchase an electric car in the first place. Another 11 percent said they were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration is willing to sacrifice the American auto industry and its workers in service of its radical green agenda,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentucky.gov\/Pages\/Activity-stream.aspx?n=AttorneyGeneral&#038;prId=1557\">said<\/a> Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman. \u201cWe just aren\u2019t buying it. Demand for EVs continues to fall, and even those who want to buy one can\u2019t afford it amid historic inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Generous <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/20\/why-is-joe-biden-screwing-seniors-to-subsidize-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsidies<\/a> from the Biden administration have benefitted Chinese suppliers with a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/05\/even-this-left-wing-report-sounds-the-alarm-u-s-is-way-too-dependent-on-communist-china-for-minerals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">monopoly<\/a> on mineral supply chains. A 2022 report from the left-wing Brookings Institute warned China\u2019s dominance in critical minerals is jeopardizing western economies increasingly reliant on overseas refinement to sustain development of modern technologies such as electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost notably, China holds 78 percent of the world\u2019s cell manufacturing capacity for [electric vehicle] batteries, which are then assembled into modules that are used to form a battery pack,\u201d the report read. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
