Lu, China\u2019s truculent envoy to France, offered his assertive commentary as Chinese officials promulgated new laws that threaten \u201cTaiwan independence diehards\u201d with the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sharp sword of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-canvassers-rescind-their-votes-to-certify-wayne-county-michigan-results\/\" title=\"Republican Canvassers Rescind Their Votes to Certify Wayne County, Michigan, Results\">legal action<\/a> will always hang high,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/21\/china\/china-death-penalty-diehard-taiwan-separatists-intl-hnk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> Sun Ping, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, last week.<\/p>\n<p>The ominous rhetoric seems to express in part Xi\u2019s displeasure with the newly elected Taiwanese President Lai Ching Te, whom he regards as a proponent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usip.org\/publications\/2024\/06\/taiwans-new-president-faces-tensions-china-and-domestic-division\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>\u201cTaiwan independence.\u201d<\/a> Taiwan\u2019s government is known as the Republic of China \u2014 the name of the state that ruled in Beijing prior to 1949.
