This came up when\u2062 discussing the re-election bid of President Joe\u200c Biden, particularly after his performance in the first presidential debate. \u2063Pelosi mentioned that despite the debate,\u2062 she believes Biden has demonstrated effective leadership during\u2064 his presidency\u2062 and\u2062 encouraged \u200cpeople\u200c to focus on \u200bhis\u200b overall track record \u200brather than a \u200dsingle poor debate performance. She also defended \u2063Biden by \u200ccontrasting his mental acuity with Trump&#8217;s, pointing out concerns over Trump&#8217;s cognitive \u2062connections and truthfulness.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Former House speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nancy-pelosi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Nancy Pelosi<\/a> (D-CA) claimed Sunday that former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> has &ldquo;dementia,&rdquo; citing statements she had heard from &ldquo;healthcare professionals.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi was asked about the possibility of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> stepping aside from his bid for reelection this November, specifically in wake of the president&rsquo;s performance during the first presidential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>debate<\/a>. The former House speaker contended that she has spoken to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>California<\/a> residents who are still in support of Biden even after the debate, and that the president has the chance to show he has &ldquo;the stamina&rdquo; to continue working his position.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And by the way, while the press and for some reason they don&rsquo;t, there are healthcare professionals who think that Trump has dementia, that his connection of his thoughts do not go together,&rdquo; Pelosi claimed. &ldquo;Not only that he just lies, he doesn&lsquo;t even know the truth, so if we&lsquo;re just talking about mental acuity, let&rsquo;s be fair about it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi also admitted that Biden had &ldquo;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nancy-pelosi-claims-trump-has-dementia-in-wake-of-presidential-debate-washington-examiner-2\/\" title=\"Nancy Pelosi accuses Trump of having &#039;dementia&#039; after presidential debate - Washington Examiner\">bad night&#038;rdquo<\/a>; during his debate but argued that he has had &ldquo;a great presidency&rdquo; as a whole, noting that voters should remember that come November. She also encouraged people to &ldquo;move on&rdquo; from the first debate.<\/p>\n<p>In regards to any concerns she has about Biden potentially bringing other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democrats<\/a> down in the 2024 elections, Pelosi brushed those aside and argued that Democrats will &ldquo;definitely&rdquo; win the House of Representatives back. She stated that the party experienced a boost in fundraising after the debate.<\/p>\n<p>However, polling data released in the wake of the debate stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3064924\/majority-voters-do-not-believe-biden-cognitive-ability-serve-president-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>72% of respondents<\/a> did not believe Biden had the mental and cognitive health to serve as president. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) stated Sunday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3064934\/raskin-admits-conversations-are-being-had-about-bidens-2024-candidacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democrats are having &ldquo;a serious conversation&rdquo;<\/a> about whether to keep Biden on the 2024 presidential ballot.
