Following this, the Department of Education announced a\u200c freeze on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">student loan payments<\/a> and interest for 3 million borrowers. The\u2064 program, known as SAVE, adjusts\u2064 borrowers&#8217; payments based on their earnings and \u200dfamily size. It \u200dwas \u2064revealed that 4.5 million \u2063out of over 8 million participants qualify for zero <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-vows-to-appeal-court-ruling-against-cdcs-eviction-moratorium\/\" title=\"DOJ Vows To Appeal Court Ruling Against CDC\u2019s Eviction Moratorium\">monthly payments due<\/a> to low income. Additionally, planned payment reductions set for July 1,\u2062 which would have halved many \u200dborrowers\u2019 payments,\u200b were\u2063 halted by the\u2063 block. Judge Daniel D. Crabtree emphasized that decisions on significant student debt forgiveness are matters for Congress to decide.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>After&nbsp;federal judges in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kansas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kansas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Missouri<\/a> sided in favor of Republican attorneys general by blocking parts of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a>&rsquo;s student loan repayment program, the Department of Education announced it is freezing monthly student loan payments and interests of 3 million borrowers.<\/p>\n<p>The Saving on a Valuable Education plan, better known as SAVE, determines a borrowers&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-texas-law-forces-drunk-drivers-to-pay-child-support-if-they-kill-parent-or-legal-guardian\/\" title=\"New Texas law mandates child support from drunk drivers who cause the death of a parent or legal guardian.\">monthly payment based<\/a> on their earnings and family size. There are more than 8 million people signed up for the plan and 4.5 million of them qualify for $0 monthly payments because of their low earnings.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On July 1, the Department of Education was going to implement payment reductions, with many borrowers seeing their payments being cut in half. That measure was blocked by Kansas U.S. District Judge Daniel D. Crabtree.<\/p>\n<p>&#8203;&#8203;&rdquo;As the court correctly held, whether to forgive billions of dollars of student debt is a major question that only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a> can answer,&rdquo; he said in a statement. &ldquo;Blue collar Kansas workers who didn&rsquo;t go to college shouldn&rsquo;t have to pay off the student loans of New Yorkers with gender studies degrees.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Missouri, U.S. District Judge John A. Ross blocked the SAVE plan from granting additional student loan forgiveness. In some cases, borrowers&rsquo; loans are and have been forgiven after ten years as opposed to the typical 20 to 25 year plan.<\/p>\n<p>However, a spokesman for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Department-of-Education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Department of Education<\/a> told <em>Politico<\/em> that it will not give up on its promise &ldquo;to fight for this long-overdue relief&rdquo; for borrowers.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear by what legal authority the Biden administration possesses the right to postpone student loan payments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The SAVE program application was taken down from the Education Department&rsquo;s website while the department works to make updates to it in order to comply with the court orders. However, borrowers who&rsquo;d like to still enroll in the plan can submit a paper application in the meantime.&nbsp;Once enrolled, borrowers will have their monthly payments and interest suspended.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are pleased to see the Department of Education take quick and decisive action,&rdquo; Natalia Abrams, executive director of the nonprofit advocacy group Student Debt Crisis Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/2024\/06\/28\/biden-student-loan-payment-interest-pause\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told <\/a>the <em>Washington Post<\/em>. &ldquo;Given the lack of clarity, swirling questions, and legal uncertainty of the Save plan, [we&rsquo;re] calling for a widespread payment pause on all federal student loans.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Federal judges in Kansas and Missouri supported Republican attorneys general, halting aspects of President Biden&#8217;s student loan repayment initiative.
