In the \u2063majority opinion for the case Murthy v.\u200b Missouri, Barrett suggested that the\u2063 tech giants&#8217;\u2064 censorship was a precaution\u200b against potential Russian \u2062influence in the 2020 \u200celection.<\/p>\n<p>She reviewed how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platforms<\/a> had \u2064implemented content moderation policies during the COVID-19\u2063 pandemic and\u200b the\u200c 2020\u200c election. Barrett noted that \u2064Facebook had introduced initiatives in late 2019 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-canada-reach-deal-on-limiting-illegal-immigration-at-northern-border\/\" title=\"US, Canada Reach Deal on Limiting Illegal Immigration at Northern Border\">combat foreign interference<\/a> and voter suppression. A month before the election, various platforms\u200b suppressed a report about Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop, believing it to be a part of a Russian hack-and-leak operation. However,\u2063 this belief was held primarily by some Democrats \u200dwho considered it an intelligence hoax\u200d designed to shield Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Further insights were provided by a House Select Subcommittee, which disclosed that some former intelligence\u2063 officials, who labeled the laptop as Russian interference, were linked\u2062 to the CIA. Despite these claims, senior national intelligence \u200bfigures, including the then-Director of National Intelligence, the FBI,\u2062 and\u2064 the Department \u2062of Justice, denied any Russian \u2063involvement in the Hunter \u2062Biden laptop story well before the November election.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted on a podcast that Facebook had reduced the \u2062visibility of the laptop story at the FBI\u2019s behest,\u2063 based on warnings of potential Russian \u2064propaganda similar to that observed in the \u200b2016 \u200belection. Zuckerberg expressed\u2063 his \u200btrust \u2064in the FBI&#8217;s credibility, although he \u200cacknowledged the agency&#8217;s controversial history.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Justice Amy Coney Barrett painted Big Tech&rsquo;s suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop stories four years ago as a safeguard against foreign interference in an official Supreme Court ruling on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>In what could have been a landmark censorship case, Barrett, who wrote the majority <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/23pdf\/23-411new_7mio.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opinion<\/a> in <em>Murthy v. Missouri<\/em>, characterized tech giants&rsquo; reactionary censorship of the laptop story as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/george-floyd-family-pushes-congressional-police-reform-at-white-house\/\" title=\"George Floyd Family Pushes Congressional Police Reform At White House\">good-faith effort<\/a> to minimize Russian meddling in the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>After summarizing social media companies&rsquo; content moderation programs throughout the coronavirus epidemic, Barrett wrote &ldquo;platforms also applied their misinformation policies during the 2020 Presidential election season.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Facebook, in late 2019, unveiled measures to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-lets-the-foreign-interference-crowd-keep-peddling-hoaxes\/\" title=\"SCOTUS Lets The &#039;Foreign Interference&#039; Crowd Keep Peddling Hoaxes\">counter foreign interference campaigns<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aoc-on-failing-to-extend-eviction-moratorium-we-cannot-in-good-faith-blame-the-republican-party\/\" title=\"AOC On Failing To Extend Eviction Moratorium: \u2018We Cannot In Good Faith Blame The Republican Party\u2019\">voter suppression efforts<\/a>,&rdquo; she wrote. &ldquo;One month before the election, multiple platforms suppressed a report about Hunter Biden&rsquo;s laptop, believing that the story originated from a Russian hack-and-leak operation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Except the only people who believed this were gullible Democrats who fell for an intelligence hoax peddled by the deep state to protect then-candidate Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/26\/ex-husband-of-cnn-debate-moderator-dana-bash-signed-biden-laptop-letter-in-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed <\/a>several of the 51 former intelligence officials who sought to discredit the laptop as Kremlin interference in Politico were actively on payroll with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The infamous letter published near immediately after the first stories from the laptop surfaced in the New York Post, claimed the computer had &ldquo;all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.&rdquo; The <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2020\/10\/19\/intelligence-director-john-ratcliffe-debunks-russian-disinformation-theories-on-hunter-biden-emails\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement <\/a>was made despite the director of national intelligence at the time dismissing allegations of Kremlin interference. His rare on-the-record rebuke would be followed by similar dismissals from the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2020\/10\/21\/fbi-doj-debunk-claims-the-hunter-biden-laptop-story-is-russian-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FBI, Department of Justice<\/a>, and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/pompeo-agrees-hunter-bidens-laptop-not-part-of-russian-operation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of State<\/a> &mdash; all well before the November election.<\/p>\n<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg would go on Joe Rogan&rsquo;s podcast nearly two years later and admit that Facebook algorithmically suppressed stories about Hunter Biden&rsquo;s laptop at the request of officials within the FBI. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The FBI basically came to us and spoke to some folks on our team and was like, &lsquo;Hey, just so you know, you should be on high alert. We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda on the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there&rsquo;s about to be some kind of dump similar to that,&#8217;&rdquo; Zuckerberg said in August 2022. &ldquo;We just kind of thought if the FBI, which I still view as a legitimate institution in this country &mdash; it&rsquo;s like very professional law enforcement &mdash; they come to us and tell us we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg&rsquo;s faith in the FBI, however, glossed over the agency&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/19\/think-the-fbi-deserves-the-benefit-of-the-doubt-this-laundry-list-of-corruption-should-make-you-think-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decades of partisan misconduct<\/a>, including efforts to undermine the 2016 election by peddling the far-left conspiracy to indict former President Donald Trump as a covert Kremlin agent.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett, who was confirmed to the high bench on Oct. 26 and took the judicial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2020\/10\/barrett-sworn-in-as-newest-justice-as-court-weighs-urgent-election-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oath <\/a>on Oct. 27 of the 2020 election year, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/26\/anti-free-speech-supreme-court-majority-mocks-concept-of-self-censorship-in-shocking-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruled <\/a>in the 6-3 <em>Murthy v. Missouri<\/em> decision that plaintiffs lacked standing, and therefore could not sue the Biden administration over the government&rsquo;s censorship regime. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the dissent and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/26\/alito-americans-will-regret-courts-allowance-of-blatantly-unconstitutional-censorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned&nbsp;<\/a>Americans would come to regret the continuity of unconstitutional censorship programs.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are obligated to tackle the free speech issue that the case presents,&rdquo;&nbsp;Alito&nbsp;wrote. &ldquo;The Court, however, shirks that duty and thus permits the successful campaign of coercion in this case to stand as an attractive model for future officials who want to control what the people say, hear, and think.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
