Within minutes of last night\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>debate<\/a> starting, the president, who was reportedly sick with a cold after spending the last week at Camp David, struggled to make himself heard. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first presidential debate lasted 90 minutes, but President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> had lost it within 10 minutes,\u201d the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>wrote today in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/editorials\/3062993\/debate-disaster-for-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>editorial<\/a>. \u201cHe stumbled immediately, lost his train of thought, and fell silent. It was painful to watch and obvious that no matter how much preparation he had done, he was utterly incapable of stringing sentences together and making a coherent argument.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he did get his hoarse voice above a whisper, his stilted way of speaking was especially pronounced compared to former President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>who kept himself restrained and on message for the length of the debate. <\/p>\n<p>Before the debate ended, Democrats online had started calling into question the feasibility of keeping Biden as their candidate. <\/p>\n<p>But during the 90-minute showdown, both men tried to give voters what they said they wanted going into the event and delivered a full slate of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/you-know-youre-testifying-under-oath-here-cruz-corners-biden-doj-nominee-on-defunding-the-police\/\" title=\"\u2018You Know You\u2019re Testifying Under Oath Here\u2019: Cruz Corners Biden DOJ Nominee On Defunding The Police\">policy discussions<\/a>. National Political Reporter <strong>Mabinty Quarshie <\/strong>drilled down into the substance last night and picked out the top takeaways voters have to mull over \u2014 including the fitness of the men at the top of the ticket. <\/p>\n<h2>Low energy Joe<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe split-screen between the two candidates did not favor Biden, who struggled to complete full thoughts and barely smiled, while Trump appeared sharper in his appearance and his remarks,\u201d Mabinty wrote. \u201cA source familiar with knowledge told the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>that Biden was struggling with a cold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden and Democrats have been telling voters for months the president\u2019s age will not affect his ability to run or govern. However, the performance last night might have been worse than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-desantis-torches-biden-for-being-passive-on-world-stage-leaving-middle-america-behind\/\" title=\"WATCH: DeSantis Torches Biden For Being \u2018Passive On World Stage,\u2019 Leaving Middle America Behind\">low energy<\/a>. If voters are concerned about how the president is faring now, less than five months out from Election Day, Biden might see the confidence in him slip away as fast as his control over the terms of the debate. <\/p>\n<h2>Abortion again<\/h2>\n<p>The signature issue Democrats won with in 2022 was a centerpiece of the debate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump reiterated his support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>legal abortion<\/a> in the case of rape, incest, and in the case of the mother\u2019s health, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-stumbles-and-other-takeaways-from-cnn-debate-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Biden stumbles and other takeaways from CNN debate - Washington Examiner\">championed individual states deciding<\/a> when to limit access to the procedure, and said he wouldn\u2019t prohibit abortion medication access,\u201d Mabinty wrote. \u201cBut he did concede: \u2018Some people don\u2019t [support exceptions to abortion bans], follow your heart, but you have to get elected also.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden side-stepped Trump\u2019s admission that Republicans aren\u2019t unified on the question of how tightly abortion should be restricted. White House Reporter <strong>Haisten Willis <\/strong>caught up with several experts and asked them to give each man a letter grade. <\/p>\n<p>The return to school wasn\u2019t pleasant for Biden, who received mostly failing marks. Trump fared better, mostly on the back of Biden\u2019s performance and the former president\u2019s show of discipline that allowed Biden to implode without interruption. <\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Alex Conant \u2013 Firehouse Strategies<\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden got an F,\u201d Conant, a founding partner of Firehouse Strategies, told Haisten. \u201cHe failed to clear the basic bar. Democrats are seriously going to consider replacing him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump gets an A-,\u201d he said. \u201cHe mostly let Biden self-implode.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott Jennings \u2013 adviser to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t grade it,\u201d Jennings told Haisten<em>. <\/em>\u201cThe image of him out there was beyond grading.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Sasha Tirador \u2013 South Florida-based Democratic strategist <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeither guy moved the needle,\u201d Tirador said. \u201cWe had a very low-energy President Biden and a very incoherent ex-President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTirador gave both candidates an \u2018F\u2019 for failing to change any minds in the course of the night,\u201d Haisten wrote. \u201cHowever, she rejected the notion that Biden should be replaced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Click <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3061585\/bidens-failing-grade-overshadows-trump-first-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>here<\/em><\/a><em>  to go back to school and see the whole report card.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Cryptic problem for vulnerable Congress members<\/h2>\n<p>Rep. <strong>Jamaal Bowman<\/strong> (D-NY) was felled for a long list of reasons. His constituents had begun to lose faith in his seriousness as a lawmaker. His strong criticisms of Israel also didn\u2019t go over well with the large slice of Jewish voters he represented. And <strong>George Latimer<\/strong> followed a trend of centrist Democrats coming in and beating out more extreme left-wing politicians, a move that could give Democrats a more durable majority in the House than Republicans have. <\/p>\n<p>But Bowman had another problem. His skepticism about cryptocurrency raised the hackles of a big-spending super PAC that dropped $2 million to defeat him, and Fairshake PAC is prepared to spend millions more to bump other crypto-skeptic members, Senate Reporter <strong>Samantha-Jo Roth <\/strong>wrote this morning. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairshakepac.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>A super PAC<\/a> supported by top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cryptocurrency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>cryptocurrency<\/a> companies is emerging as the newest big player in American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>election<\/a> financing, adding more victories in Tuesday\u2019s in congressional primaries,\u201d Samantha-Jo wrote. \u201cFairshake PAC has already emerged as one of the top spenders in the 2024 election cycle. Along with its two affiliated PACs, it has now spent more than $37 million on ads in primary races, according to AdImpact. The group still intends to spend $100 million more to support candidates it sees as pro-crypto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The deep-pocketed group hasn\u2019t been bogging voters down with the details about cryptocurrency, digital wallets, or the intricacies of blockchain technology in its attack ads. Instead, the group has opted to make races and candidates more opaque, forcing Rep. <strong>Katie Porter <\/strong>(D-CA) to disavow accusations she was taking corporate money for her campaign. <\/p>\n<p><em>Click <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3062068\/crypto-giants-political-capital-backing-winning-primary-candidates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>here<\/em><\/a><em>  to learn more about the group.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>The next Joe Manchin? <\/h2>\n<p>The world\u2019s greatest deliberative body is on track to have fewer deal-makers next year with Democrat-turned-independent Sens. <strong>Joe Manchin<\/strong> (I-WV) and <strong>Kyrsten Sinema<\/strong> (I-AZ) choosing retirement over another term in Congress. Even before the centrist senators abandoned the \u201cD\u201d next to their names, Majority Leader <strong>Chuck Schumer<\/strong> (D-NY) could rely on them more often than not to support Democrats. But they rode to Minority Leader <strong>Mitch McConnell\u2019s<\/strong> (R-KY) side more than once \u2014 especially in his efforts to shield the Senate filibuster from being eliminated to promote partisan policy ends. <\/p>\n<p>After Manchin spent most of the last four years being a constant thorn in Biden\u2019s side, a possible President Trump might find himself with his own agitator, Economics Reporter <strong>Zachary Halaschak <\/strong>reported from Maryland. <\/p>\n<p>Zachary caught up with <strong>Larry Hogan<\/strong> on the sidelines of a campaign event for the former governor, who is running in a tough contest against Angela Alsobrooks to try and be the first Republican to capture a Senate seat in Maryland in nearly 40 years. <\/p>\n<p>Hogan told Zachary that former President <strong>George W.
