She \u200csuggested that funding from the \u200dNational Institutes of Health \u200bdedicated to animal testing should be entirely and permanently eliminated. This stance came in response to a statement by pundit Jonah Goldberg.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/peta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals\">People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals<\/a>, or PETA, seized on a never-Trumper\u2019s slam of former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> as an \u201cescaped monkey from a cocaine study\u201d during CNN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/live-blog\/trump-biden-2024-presidential-debate-cnn-live-updates\/\" title>pre-debate<\/a> analysis on Thursday to call for an end to federal animal testing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhoever wins the presidential race must recognize that experiments on animals are failing to lead to treatments for humans and should cut the National Institutes of Health\u2019s budget for animal tests entirely and permanently,\u201d PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-taking-regeneron-drug-remdesivir-therapy-for-coronavirus-diagnosis-ex-wh-doctor-explains\/\" title=\"Trump taking Regeneron drug, Remdesivir therapy for coronavirus diagnosis: ex-WH doctor explains\">told<\/a> Secrets.<\/p>\n<p>She was reacting to a typically harsh comment about Trump from <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/podcast\/2023\/07\/12\/jonah-goldberg-a-nevertrumpers-take-on-the-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>pundit Jonah Goldberg<\/a>, co-founder of the <em>Dispatch<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He was on a panel hosted by CNN morning anchor Kasie Hunt, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3056920\/liberal-media-scream-cnn-proves-anti-trump-bias-days-before-debate\/\" title>came under fire<\/a> this week for cutting off the microphone of Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. Hunt asked Goldberg for his assessment of the importance of the debate Thursday night between Trump and President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrctv.org\/videos\/jonah-goldberg-if-elected-would-trump-tweet-escaped-monkey-cocaine-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>He said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cFor Biden, it\u2019s not misgivings necessarily about his character. It\u2019s misgivings about his age, whether he\u2019s up to the job.<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cAnd for Trump, it\u2019s misgivings about, \u2018Dear God, are we going to go back to four more years of the kind of chaos and him being in our headspace again? Can I handle that? Can I make peace with that, or is it going to be four more years of him tweeting like an escaped monkey from a cocaine study?<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u2018\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That drew laughs from the panel but not from PETA.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guillermo told us, \u201cIt may sound bizarre that experimenters deliberately addict monkeys to cocaine, but this abuse masquerading as science is real \u2014 and unfortunately, there is no escape for these animals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also told us, \u201cWe aren\u2019t upset with the comment.
