It Just Partnered With a Chinese Communist Influence Group.\">media outlets due<\/a> \u2062to perceived Big Tech suppression and a call for reader support to continue their journalistic\u2064 endeavors.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/%20\"><span>Randy DeSoto<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 27, 2024 at 1:53pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump has the political wind at his back, based on new polling published just ahead of Thursday night\u2019s presidential debate.<\/p>\n<p>A Quinnipiac University <a href=\"https:\/\/poll.qu.edu\/poll-release?releaseid=3900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> released Wednesday found the Republican with a 4-percentage-point advantage over Democrat President Joe Biden, who led in a May poll released by the same firm.<\/p>\n<p>In a head-to-head match, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-campaign-demands-democratic-pac-take-false-ad-appears-violate-ku-klux-klan-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> led Biden 49 to 45 percent nationally among registered voters, as opposed to Quinnipiac\u2019s May 22 survey, in which the president led Trump 48 to 47 percent.<\/p>\n<p>When third-party candidates were thrown in the mix \u2014 including independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Green Party candidate Jill Stein, independent candidate Cornel West and Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver \u2014 Trump\u2019s lead increased to five points, with a final count of 43 percent to Biden\u2019s 37 percent.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udcca NATIONAL POLL: Quinnipiac<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udfe5 Trump: 49% [+2]  \ud83d\udfe6 Biden: 45% [-3]  \u2014<br \/> \ud83d\udfe5 Trump: 43% [+5]  \ud83d\udfe6 Biden: 37% [-4]  \ud83d\udfe8 RFK Jr: 11% [-3]  \ud83d\udfe9 Stein: 2% [=]  \ud83d\udfe8 West: 2% [=]  \ud83d\udfea Oliver: 1% [new]\n[+\/- change vs May]  \u2014<br \/> 538: #19 (2.8\/3.0) | 1,405 RV| 6\/20-24<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4zsteM2lPe\">https:\/\/t.co\/4zsteM2lPe<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZIRQBiTzJ5\">pic.twitter.com\/ZIRQBiTzJ5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 InteractivePolls (@IAPolls2022) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IAPolls2022\/status\/1806025999144116438?\">June 26, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The poll also found that 55 percent believed Trump should not be sentenced to prison based on the guilty verdict rendered in the so-called New York hush-money case, while 40 percent think he should.<\/p>\n<p>Not surprisingly, there was a significant party divide concerning the matter, though independents fell strongly in the no-prison-sentence camp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans (92 \u2013 4 percent) and independents (59 \u2013 36 percent) think Trump should not be sentenced to prison based on this guilty verdict, while Democrats (79 \u2013 17 percent) think he should be sentenced to prison,\u201d Quinnipiac reported.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Biden suffer a gaffe in the first debate?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The poll was conducted nationwide from June 20 to 24 with 1,405 self-identified registered voters. The margin of error was +\/- 2.6 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>Quinnipiac\u2019s findings were consistent with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/26\/us\/politics\/trump-poll-hush-money-conviction.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Times\/Siena College<\/a> poll also published Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, conducted from June 20 to 25, found Trump with a 48 to 42 percent lead among registered voters and a 48 to 44 percent advantage with likely voters. A total of 1,226 registered voters participated in the poll.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/majority-americans-will-now-tuning-debate-biden-cant-risk-even-single-senior-moment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> held a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/on-election-day-heres-what-the-polls-really-say\/\" title=\"On Election Day, Here\u2019s What the Polls Really Say\">1-percentage-point lead<\/a> in April over Biden: 47 to 46 percent.<\/p>\n<p>So a takeaway from Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-ag-merrick-garland-scrambles-pressed-alvin-bragg-fani-willis-letitia-james-house-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> securing a guilty conviction on Trump late last month is that it has not hurt the Republican\u2019s candidacy, and arguably helped it.<\/p>\n<p>Quinnipiac found the top issues that were important to voters included the economy, immigration, preserving democracy and abortion.<\/p>\n<p>More than seven in 10 voters (73 percent) planned to tune into Thursday\u2019s 9 p.m. Eastern Time debate on CNN, which was scheduled to be simulcast on Fox News and ABC. Several outlets planned to stream the event live on YouTube, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/06\/26\/presidential-debate-2024-trump-biden-cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-leading-biden-ahead-cnn-presidential-debate-support-black-voters-way-up-2020-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> reported that the June 27 face-off would mark the earliest presidential debate in U.S. history.<\/p>\n<p>It was slated to last 90 minutes and include two commercial breaks \u2014 another first.
