Clyde reintroduced the Free Speech Defense Act\u200c aiming to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/will-gop-performance-in-nm-1-set-stage-for-law-and-order-campaign-in-22\/\" title=\"Will GOP Performance In NM-1 Set Stage For Law And Order Campaign in '22?\">eliminate federal funding<\/a>\u2064 for any entity involved in classifying or directing censorship of speech deemed as misinformation or disinformation.\u200c This legislation, however, was previously shot down by a similar number of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>The background context provided for CISA describes the agency as originally established to protect U.S. infrastructure from\u2062 threats but now engaging in activities like collaborating with tech companies to curb the dissemination \u200cof certain types\u200c of speech, including factually accurate information that it finds harmful or manipulative. Even internal documents revealed CISA&#8217;s prior awareness of risks associated with unsupervised mail-in\u200d voting, a topic it categorized as disinformation \u2063during public discussions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On the same day the U.S. Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/26\/scotus-green-lights-feds-big-tech-censorship-scheme-ahead-of-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greenlit<\/a> the Biden regime\u2019s censorship of Americans via social media, 104 Republicans voted to keep a raise for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)  \u2014 which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/27\/biden-admin-grew-censorship-complex-to-silence-true-but-inconvenient-malinformation-weaponization-committee-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">described<\/a> as the \u201cnerve center\u201d of the government\u2019s censorship activities \u2014 in this year\u2019s military appropriations bill. <\/p>\n<p>Georgia Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde offered an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/congressional-report\/118th-congress\/house-report\/559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendment<\/a> to the 2025 Department of Defense Appropriations Act that would keep funding for CISA at its 2024 level \u2014 effectively decreasing the budgeted amount in the bill by a little more than 2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The current appropriations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/8752\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legislation<\/a> provides $2,437,285,000 to CISA. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/congressional-report\/118th-congress\/house-report\/559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendment<\/a> would have \u2014 on Page 43, line 11 of the appropriations bill \u2014 struck \u201cthe first dollar amount and insert $2,379,485,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a speech on the House floor, Clyde chided CISA for its censorship activities, saying the agency does not need more funds to support unconstitutional operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCISA\u2019s bloated budget and the agency\u2019s increased weaponization mission to police free speech has gone on simultaneously,\u201d Clyde <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ueIs4HTGymc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cGiven extraordinary increases in funding, CISA has used taxpayer dollars to censor Americans and target speech that they find disagreeable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlatfundng CISA for FY 25 is simply putting them on notice \u2026 to get their attention and cease the weaponization of this agency,\u201d Clyde continued.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2024286\">104<\/a> Republican legislators helped Democrats vote down the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>The vote came on the same day the Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/26\/thanks-to-scotus-the-foreign-interference-crowd-can-keep-peddling-hoaxes-to-silence-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued its 6-3<\/a> decision in <em>Murthy v. Missouri<\/em>, which allowed the Biden administration to continue working with Big Tech to shut down free speech. The administration can now continue these efforts in the months leading up to the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Clyde also recently reintroduced the Free Speech Defense Act, which would, among other things, revoke federal funding for any \u201centities that classify \u2014 or support the classification of \u2014 speech as misinformation or disinformation, as well as for entities that direct or instruct the censorship of protected speech,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/clyde.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clyde\u2019s<\/a> office. That would include CISA. <\/p>\n<p>The legislation was originally introduced in December of 2022 but it was similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/30\/these-house-republicans-voted-to-fund-cisas-criminal-censorship-and-election-interference\/\">sh<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/30\/these-house-republicans-voted-to-fund-cisas-criminal-censorship-and-election-interference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">o<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/30\/these-house-republicans-voted-to-fund-cisas-criminal-censorship-and-election-interference\/\">t down<\/a> by 109 Republicans this past September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/02\/rfk-jr-bidens-censorship-regime-is-arguably-a-worse-threat-to-democracy-than-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RFK Jr.: Biden\u2019s Censorship Regime Is Arguably A \u2018Worse Threat To Democracy\u2019 Than Trump<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>CISA\u2019s History of Censorship<\/h2>\n<p>CISA was originally formed under the auspices of protecting \u201cthe Nation\u2019s critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats.\u201d But what it <em>actually<\/em> has been doing is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/07\/government-censorship-op-targeted-the-federalists-mollie-hemingway-sean-davis-during-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">colluding<\/a> with Big Tech companies to throttle the spread of free speech it doesn\u2019t like \u2014 even if it\u2019s factually true.<\/p>\n<p>CISA even punishes Americans for what it calls \u201cmalinformation,\u201d that is, true information the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/27\/biden-admin-grew-censorship-complex-to-silence-true-but-inconvenient-malinformation-weaponization-committee-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">agency<\/a> says is \u201cbased on fact, but used out of context to mislead, harm, or manipulate.\u201d As CISA Director Jen Easterly <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/cisa-staff-report6-26-23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> it, the agency wants to secure the public\u2019s \u201ccognitive infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, CISA chose to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/23\/docs-cisa-knew-risks-of-mail-in-voting-in-2020-but-got-posts-about-them-censored-anyway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">classify<\/a> as \u201cdisinformation\u201d and flag for censorship social media posts highlighting concerns related to unsupervised mail-in voting. Internally, however, CISA was aware ahead of the 2020 election of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/election-integrity\/commentary\/the-risks-mail-voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">risks<\/a> associated with unsupervised mail-in voting, as documents <a href=\"https:\/\/aflegal.org\/bombshell-documents-america-first-legal-lawsuit-reveals-cisa-knew-about-mail-in-voting-risks-in-2020-while-censoring-related-narratives-as-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obtained<\/a> by America First Legal show. The agency even created a six-point list by October 2020 warning of the risks to the large-scale mail-in voting process. Internal communications also showed CISA was aware of \u201cmajor challenges\u201d with absentee voting such as \u201chigh numbers of improperly completed ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/14\/expert-says-congressional-republicans-plan-to-curb-cisas-criminal-censorship-practices-is-ineffective-and-sloppy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CISA<\/a> worked with consulting firm Deloitte and asked them to notify CISA about social media trends related to \u201cVote-By-Mail\u201d narratives and to flag those posts for \u201cCISA\u2019s awareness and attention,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/aflegal.org\/bombshell-documents-america-first-legal-lawsuit-reveals-cisa-knew-about-mail-in-voting-risks-in-2020-while-censoring-related-narratives-as-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to AFL.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s In Store Ahead Of November?<\/h2>\n<p>Thanks to feckless Republicans in Congress and an anti-speech ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court, CISA has the green light to continue its censorship activities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Pennsylvania, a key battleground state where the 2020 election was marred by administration issues, has partnered with CISA in what it describes as an attempt to \u201cmitigate threats to the election process\u201d and \u201ccombat misinformation.\u201d The Keystone State would work with CISA to \u201copen lines of communication and share intelligence among the included government agencies,\u201d the Pennsylvania Department of State revealed to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/01\/pennsylvania-partners-with-dhs-cisa-censors-to-target-election-speech-it-deems-a-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Federalist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/20\/exclusive-jordan-tells-cisa-to-fork-over-docs-about-collusion-with-pennsylvania-to-target-election-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched an inquiry<\/a> into the state\u2019s coordination with CISA following The Federalist\u2019s reporting.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the day the U.S. Supreme Court approved the Biden administration&#8217;s social media censorship, 104 Republicans supported maintaining a budget increase for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the military appropriations bill.
