The backdoor route of what Barack Obama used to call the \u201cpen and a phone\u201d of executive orders hasn\u2019t worked so well either.<\/p>\n<p>So there\u2019s a new strategy: They\u2019ve got the surgeon general declaring gun violence a public health crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Florida <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-speaks-answers-whether-trumps-right-vote-will-stripped\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/a> isn\u2019t buying it \u2014 and he\u2019s sending a clear message to Washington that Florida \u201cwill not comply\u201d with any attempts by the administration to use public health as a way to erode the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Surgeon General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/childrens-stake-surgeon-generals-smart-call-social-media-warning-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vivek Murthy<\/a> on Tuesday issued the \u201cadvisory on firearm violence\u201d after what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/surgeon-general-declares-gun-violence-public-health-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a> described as \u201canother summer weekend marked by mass shootings that left dozens of people dead or wounded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most of these \u201cmass shootings\u201d were, in fact, part of an uptick in general violence the country has seen since the COVID-19 pandemic, as <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/violence-mass-shootings-summer-b004331ee7d3da95bce6646547f8d43f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> noted, and \u201c[s]ummertime always brings a rise in violence because school is out, there are more social gatherings and warmer temperatures can cause tempers to flare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The surgeon general has chosen to address none of the other aspects fueling this violence and is, instead, scapegoating the gun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, for the first time in the history of our office, I am issuing a Surgeon General\u2019s Advisory on firearm violence,\u201d Murthy said in a recorded statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a doctor, I\u2019ve seen the consequences of firearm violence up close and the lives of the patients I\u2019ve cared for over the years. These are moms and dads, sons and daughters, all of whom were robbed of their physical and mental health by senseless acts of violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the problem has continued to grow. Fifty-four percent of adults in America report that they or family member have experienced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-secret-service-intervened-in-hunter-biden-gun-incident-lied-on-background-check-form-report-says\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Secret Service Intervened In Hunter Biden Gun Incident; Lied On Background Check Form, Report Says\">firearm-related incident<\/a>, whether they\u2019ve been personally threatened with or injured by a firearm, lost a family member, witnessed a shooting, or shot a firearm in self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you like Ron DeSantis?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Surgeon General\u2019s Advisory on Firearm Violence | June 25, 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gI8HviyBw18?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen   style=\"display:none\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/florida-politics\/2024\/06\/26\/florida-will-not-comply-with-us-surgeon-generals-gun-violence-advisory-desantis-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tampa Bay Times<\/a> noted, Murthy \u201ccalled for a comprehensive approach similar to responses to tobacco and motor vehicle deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And what might that \u201ccomprehensive approach\u201d involved?<\/p>\n<p>You guessed it: \u201cMurthy called for universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, more federal funding for gun violence prevention research and tighter regulations on the gun industry, among other suggestions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>None of those things can, of course, happen without congressional approval, but bureaucracy that creeps like an invasive vine can often choke legal rights without a bill being passed, particularly under the vague pretense of protecting \u201cpublic health\u201d \u2014 which is why DeSantis made it clear Florida wouldn\u2019t be complying with anything Murthy did to try and regulate guns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-makes-telling-move-menthol-cigarette-ban-black-voter-support-crumbles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like tobacco<\/a> or motor vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring COVID, unelected bureaucrats used \u2018public health\u2019 as a pretext to deprive citizens of their rights\u2013 and I signed legislation to protect Floridians from government overreach,\u201d DeSantis said in a statement to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, Biden\u2019s Surgeon General is attempting to violate the Second Amendment through the \u2018public health\u2019 bureaucracy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not comply. One does not even have to wait for Murthy to outline his \u201cpublic health\u201d approach to solving the gun violence crisis to know this.<\/p>\n<p>If the administration was really willing to do something, it wouldn\u2019t be going through the surgeon general. There are Republicans ready, willing and able to put more cops on the streets and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-us-attorney-bill-mcswain-declares-bid-for-governor-of-pennsylvania\/\" title=\"Former US Attorney Bill McSwain Declares Bid for Governor of Pennsylvania\">put violent criminals<\/a> behind bars for longer stretches of time.<\/p>\n<p>We could end the fool\u2019s game of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/best-reason-ever-get-concealed-carry-permit-bail-reform-bill-may-spell-end-days-dem-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bail reform<\/a>\u201d that puts too many dangerous individuals back out onto the street without any surety they\u2019ll show back up in court.<\/p>\n<p>We could re-fund the police after the president\u2019s party defunded and demoralized them in the wake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/minneapolis-officials-abruptly-reverse-course-defund-police-crime-soars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annus horribilis of 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>None of that will happen, of course, because the tack the administration is taking is blaming the gun. The gun was the one that did the shooting. The gun is the one whose temper flares when the temperature gets hotter. The gun is the one that, when school lets out, is released from the pressures of studying and the necessity of attending classes and obeying campus rules, so it shoots people.<\/p>\n<p>Can we get the guns some tutors, perhaps? Maybe a rec center with air conditioning specifically for firearms? An \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/increasethepeacechicago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Increase the Peace<\/a>\u201d movement to stop the gang warfare between Glocks and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/iconic-weapon-retired-usmc-century-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sig Sauers<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>This administration, and <em>any<\/em> Democratic administration, will do anything possible to avoid addressing the root causes of gun violence in the name of opportunistically chipping away at gun rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>One feels for those who have lost loved ones to this violence, but consider this: Joe Biden and his surgeon general don\u2019t see your loved ones as victims, they see them as opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why we need governors like Ron DeSantis to make it clear that no matter what Vivek Murthy and the Biden administration proposes, they won\u2019t comply.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
