As reported by the\u200b Washington Examiner, opinions vary greatly among the electorate regarding the\u2062 abilities of \u2063each candidate at the debate. Washington Examiner spoke to voters in Atlanta about each candidate\u2019s weaknesses heading into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cuDEEMe4BhE\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Atlanta voters<\/a> from both Trump and Biden campaign events said they looked forward to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3059842\/presidential-debate-bingo-card-play-along-trump-biden-face-off\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">watching<\/a> at least part of the upcoming debate on CNN. However, people had different views on how each candidate <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\/3056352\/voters-say-trump-win-debate-booting-biden-off-2024-ticket\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">would fare behind the podium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m most looking forward to the tone of this debate to see how <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3057181\/matter-of-debate-trump-returns-fulton-county\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President Trump<\/a> behaves, or if he can,\u201d Georgia state Rep. (Amy DeLaura\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Civil rights attorney and democratic analyst, Robert Patillo, feels the rules behind the CNN debate are a weak spot for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is very much going to be on the defensive in this debate,\u201d Patillo said. \u201cBecause this is not his forum. He is very much a crowd speaker. He\u2019s a rally speaker. Being stuck in a small room with a podium, no audience for feedback, with questions and answers, and the microphone is turned off? This is not his strongest venue.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Georgia state Rep. Esther Panitch, a democrat who serves Fulton County, speaks with Washington Examiner about the upcoming debate (Amy DeLaura\/Washington Exmainer)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Panitch agrees this debate does not play to Trump\u2019s strengths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout the energy of an audience with him, he lives off that energy,\u201d Panitch said. \u201cHe\u2019s very good at that. Feeding that energy, and he won\u2019t have it this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat will be interesting to see is how he does when you have to have a debate. You can\u2019t use liners, zingers, and insults,\u201d Patillo said. \u201cBut you\u2019re gonna have to have questions with fact checks directly behind that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Gloria Barker speaks to Washington Examiner at a Trump campaign office grand opening event on Tuesday, June 26, 2024 (Amy DeLaura\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Gloria Barker, a former educator and counselor, believes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3058659\/trump-can-turn-the-biased-cnn-debate-to-his-advantage\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a> designed the debate to be harder on Trump and easier on Biden. Especially with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/15\/politics\/trump-biden-cnn-debate-rules\/index.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of the rules<\/a> being the person who is not speaking will have their microphone cut off, preventing any instant rebuttal. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s going to be fair, and it should be a fair debate for both of them,\u201d Barker said. \u201cThey should have their opportunity to say how they feel and what they\u2019re fighting for. And give them an opportunity to do it and not cut everybody off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prioleau, who is also an educator, is skeptical Biden can fight off concerns about his age with this performance. The President is giving fewer press conferences and speeches. It seems as if there has been an increase in incidents of Biden being caught on camera stumbling, stuttering his words, or losing his train of thought altogether. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden is really interesting in his age,\u201d Prioleau said. \u201cCan he handle this debate with Trump?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President is only three years older than Trump, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3042422\/trumps-birthday-bidens-age-spotlight\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at 81 and 78, respectively<\/a>. However, Panitch, a Democrat, knows that placing the two side-by-side onstage is a weakness for Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking for Joe Biden not to lose this debate,\u201d Panitch said. \u201cHold the line. Talk about his accomplishments.
