The reason: It\u2019s all about Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans and Democrats were nearly identical in telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/biden_administration\/80_say_trump_s_vp_pick_doesn_t_matter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Rasmussen Reports<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3058882\/trump-loves-primetime-central-casting-vp-tiana-lowe-doescher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Trump\u2019s pick<\/a> won\u2019t make \u201cmuch of a difference\u201d on Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>Some 82% of Republicans dismissed the much-hyped pick, as did 81% of Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, just 12% of Republican and Democratic likely voters said Trump\u2019s pick would make a difference on Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>That may sound surprising considering all the focus the media have put on Trump\u2019s choice. The former president plans to announce his selection at the Republican National Convention, though there was one report this week that he could name his choice on Wednesday or Thursday, before his debate with President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-accompanied-his-wife-to-cancer-treatment-democrats-mocked-him-for-being-missing\/\" title=\"DeSantis Accompanied His Wife To Cancer Treatment. Democrats Mocked Him For Being \u2018Missing\u2019\">campaign mocked<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3059114\/trump-may-announce-vp-pick-before-debate-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>NBC report<\/a>, and it would seem odd to name his choice and compete in the news cycle with the debate, which Trump expects to win and brag about.<\/p>\n<p>Vice presidential picks often don\u2019t add more than 1%-2% to a presidential candidate\u2019s vote, though they can make voting groups feel good or bad about candidates. When Trump chose former Indiana Gov. Mike Pence in 2016, for example, it signaled he would respect conservative and evangelical views.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Republicans have long said they want DeSantis on the ticket. His presidential campaign fizzled fast and never caught steam. However, he is viewed by Republicans as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cpac-scores-chainsaw-argentine-president-javier-milei\/\" title=\"CPAC applauds Argentine President Javier Milei's 'chainsaw' approach\">top conservative leader<\/a> and likely 2028 presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>In the survey, DeSantis was the choice of 23% of Republicans. \u201cNot sure\u201d and \u201cSome Other Candidate\u201d combined for 21%<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second choice of Republicans, at 14%, was Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and third was former Trump Cabinet secretary Ben Carson at 10%. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) tied for fourth at 8%.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, shared with Secrets, did not include former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, a former candidate, who is often listed by Republicans in the top five for running mates.
