Arkansas is one of 27 states with the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Posey\u2019s hearing was held from the Ouachita County Detention Center, where the 44-year-old man has been held since being treated for injuries sustained while police say he exchanged gunfire with them on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Ryan Phillips <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/mid-south\/arkansas-fordyce-grocery-store-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> Tuesday\u2019s first appearance by Posey was not an arraignment or a trial but instead, a hearing to discuss probable cause, the defendant\u2019s rights, and bond.<\/p>\n<p>The Fordyce Police Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/23\/us\/fordyce-arkansas-shooting-grocery-store.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> the day the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/violent-crime-on-the-rise-in-san-diego-calif\/\" title=\"Violent crime on the rise in San Diego, Calif.\">mass shooting occurred<\/a> was the worst day in the town\u2019s history. The shooter showed up at the Mad Butcher grocery store with a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and a bandolier of shotgun rounds and started shooting \u201cindiscriminately\u201d at the establishment\u2019s inhabitants.
