These rulings came \u200dafter lawsuits from Republican-led states, arguing that the administration bypassed Congress unlawfully \u2064to push forward the plan. Despite the halts, the 8 million Americans already enrolled can continue under \u200bthe plan at least until the litigation concludes. The White House\u200c blamed opposition from Republican \u200dofficials\u200c for blocking wider access to reduced payments and faster loan forgiveness. Critics argue that such programs unfairly shift the loan burden to taxpayers and penalize those who have diligently paid off their student loans or opted not to attend college.\u2062 The outcome of these court decisions could significantly impact a crucial aspect of President Biden&#8217;s 2024 campaign strategy.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/%20\"><span>Michael Austin<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 25, 2024 at 10:50am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s scheme to pay off student loans with taxpayer dollars was partially blocked by two different federal courts Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, judges in Kansas and Missouri ruled in favor of Republican lawsuits levied against the administration\u2019s so-called Saving on a Valuable Education Plan, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/courts-block-aspects-bidens-hallmark-student-loan-repayment\/story?id=111389613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/08\/22\/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-administration-launches-the-save-plan-the-most-affordable-student-loan-repayment-plan-ever-to-lower-monthly-payments-for-millions-of-borrowers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAVE Plan<\/a>, launched in August, is an \u201cincome-driven repayment\u201d redistributive scheme designed to restructure student loan payment plans based on the borrower\u2019s income and then \u201cforgive\u201d the remaining loans after a certain number of years have passed.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican states that filed the suits argued the Biden administration illegally circumvented asking Congress for authority to move forward with the plan.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, two federal judges agreed.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the administration\u2019s apparent failure to follow procedure, the White House issued a statement blaming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ted-cruz-puts-trumps-tax-idea-bill-form-quickly-gets-support-fellow-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans<\/a> for denying students loan \u201cforgiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that Republican elected officials and their allies have fought tooth and nail to prevent their constituents from accessing lower payments and a faster path to debt forgiveness \u2014 and that courts are now rejecting authority that the Department has applied repeatedly for decades to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-to-allow-40k-borrowers-to-have-student-loans-eligible-for-public-service-loan-forgiveness-program\/\" title=\"Biden Admin to Allow 40k Borrowers to Have Student Loans Eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program\">improve income-driven repayment plans<\/a>,\u201d said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, according to ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>The two rulings don\u2019t end the SAVE Plan entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Though the Biden administration is now blocked from continuing the program, the 8 million Americans who are enrolled will be allowed to continue to benefit from it, at least until the court cases reach their conclusion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is Biden\u2019s student debt &#8220;forgiveness&#8221; unconstitutional?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Phase two of the multistep plan \u2014 which, according to ABC News, involves cutting the size of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-student-loan-borrowers-likely-to-have-to-pay-debt-at-sometime\/\" title=\"Psaki: Student Loan Borrowers Likely to Have to Pay Debt at 'Sometime'\">monthly loan payments<\/a> by half \u2014 has been paused, as has been the latter portion of the plan that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-gets-called-tone-deaf-announces-major-student-loan-cancellation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fully \u201ccancels\u201d student loan debt<\/a> for those who have been paying off their loans for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives have long opposed the idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jim-verdi-conservative-grievances-are-so-1776\/\" title=\"Jim Verdi: Conservative Grievances Are So 1776\">student loan debt \u201cforgiveness<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They say such plans punish hardworking and financially responsible adults and students who worked to pay off their loans, either during or after attending school \u2014 or who didn\u2019t go to college at all.<\/p>\n<p>They note that such plans don\u2019t \u201ccancel\u201d loans but rather pass on the cost to taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>According to an April report from <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/student-debt-cancellation-college-forgiveness-f94b9706bd395b32e44d4d1b3f6ff051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>, as many as seven Republican-led states signed on to the first lawsuit led by Missouri challenging the SAVE Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Just a month prior, the other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/case-missing-kansas-women-takes-dark-turn-four-people-arrested-murder-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kansas<\/a>-led lawsuit was signed on by GOP attorneys general in 11 states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet again, the President is unilaterally trying to impose an extraordinarily expensive and controversial policy that he could not get through Congress,\u201d the Missouri lawsuit argued.<\/p>\n<p>Should the plan fall through, it would mark the failure of what <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/biden-touts-new-student-debt-relief-ticket-chase\/story?id=107424731\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a> called \u201ca key part of [President Joe Biden\u2019s] 2024 campaign strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
