Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>The premature concession came on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>During an interview with the digital media publication <a href=\"https:\/\/puck.news\/biden-campaign-chair-jen-omalley-dillon-we-are-going-to-win\/?_cio_id=f6c60600b413b513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Puck News<\/a>, Jen O\u2019Malley Dillon, the president\u2019s re-election campaign chairman, acknowledged the Sunshine State, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.270towin.com\/states\/Florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">30 Electoral College votes<\/a>, is a lost cause for Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer, John Heilemann, listed off some states, asking Dillon if the campaign considered them to be \u201cbattleground\u201d contests.<\/p>\n<p>When it came to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tragedy-florida-beach-parents-six-enter-water-red-flag-warning-kids-watch-happened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a>, Dillon\u2019s answer was to the point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you. I was afraid you were going to lie,\u201d Heilemann responded.<\/p>\n<p>The admission is a pivotal development, given Florida\u2019s recent history of seesawing between Democrat and Republican in presidential elections, as shown on the political website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.270towin.com\/states\/Florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">270toWin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The state was the focus of Republican George W. Bush\u2019s razor-thin victory in 2000. And while Forida went for Bush in 2004, it voted for Democrat Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. However, Trump won it in both 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Biden\u2019s prospects for re-election have not looked quite so good in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, the president\u2019s approval ratings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-drops-time-low-approval-rating-prominent-pollster-suggests-dropout-threshold-may-hit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have plummeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/approval\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national average of approval polls<\/a> puts Biden\u2019s current approval rating at a measly 39.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the same group\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/favorability\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national poll average<\/a> puts Trump\u2019s current favorability rating at 41.7 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In a June 10 social media post,\u00a0 based on the numbers, prominent pollster Nate Silver suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/took-obama-give-us-trump-first-time-now-biden-going-return-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden<\/a> may have hit the \u201cthreshold\u201d where his dropping out of the race could be less of a risk for Democrats than his staying in.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">But Biden just hit a new all-time low in approval (37.4%) at 538 yesterday. Dropping out would be a big risk. But there\u2019s some threshold below which continuing to run is a bigger risk. Are we there yet? I don\u2019t know. But it\u2019s more than fair to ask. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1nmoKQkW85\">pic.twitter.com\/1nmoKQkW85<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NateSilver538\/status\/1800207457240903698?\">June 10, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The latest national polls, as revealed by FiveThirtyEight\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/president-general\/2024\/national\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national average<\/a>, show the two candidates are in a dead heat at roughly 40 percent.<\/p>\n<p>However, that may change after Thursday when this year\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-biden-agree-first-presidential-debate-rules-going-look-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presidential debate<\/a> is set to take place in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/06\/24\/nx-s1-5013579\/trump-biden-presidential-debate-when\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a>, the debate will break from tradition in many ways.<\/p>\n<p>June is months earlier than presidential debates typically take place in the campaign season and there will be no live audience in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The debate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-pulls-trump-spokeswoman-air-telling-truth-debate-moderator-jake-tapper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will be moderated<\/a> by CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
