Assange had been detained for five years and\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-pardon-jon-woods-a-victim-of-process-crimes-like-michael-flynn\/\" title=\"President Trump, Please Pardon Jon Woods, a Victim of Process Crimes Like Michael Flynn\">pled guilty<\/a> to violating the Espionage Act by unlawfully obtaining and disseminating classified \u200cU.S. information related to operations in the Middle East. This included vast amounts\u200c of documentation on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as U.S. State Department cables and assessments of detainees at Guant\u00e1namo Bay. <\/p>\n<p>The leaked \u200bmaterial was shared via Wikileaks in collaboration with Chelsea Manning, a former U.S. military intelligence officer who had her 35-year sentence commuted by \u200dPresident Obama. Assange is\u200b scheduled to appear \u200bin court in the Northern \u2062Mariana Islands and is expected to return \u200dto Australia afterward. The plea deal stipulates \u200cthat Assange will not face further time in U.S. custody and will\u200d be \u2063credited for the \u200btime already spent in UK prison.\u2062 His wife has expressed intentions to seek a pardon for \u200bhim.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/wikileaks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wikileaks<\/a> founder <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/julian-assange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Julian Assange<\/a> was released from prison on Monday after striking a plea deal with President Biden\u2019s Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>According to newly released <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nmid.6474\/gov.uscourts.nmid.6474.1.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">court documents<\/a>, Assange \u2014 who has been detained in a British prison for five years \u2014 pled guilty to violating the Espionage Act, in which he \u201cknowingly and unlawfully\u201d obtained and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unverified-usb-file-indicates-hamass-intentions-of-chemical-weapon-usage-report\/\" title=\"Report: Unverified USB file suggests Hamas plans to use chemical weapons.\">shared classified information<\/a> about the U.S. government\u2019s operations in the Middle East. This information included \u201ctens of thousands of activity reports about the war in Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of reports about the war in Iraq, hundreds of thousands of State Department cables and assessment briefs of detainees at the U.S. detention camp at Guant\u00e1namo Bay, Cuba,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/06\/24\/julian-assange-has-reached-a-plea-deal-with-the-us-allowing-him-to-go-free.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In releasing the information via Wikileaks, Assange conspired with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/chelsea-manning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chelsea Manning<\/a>, a trans-identifying man and former U.S. military intel officer. While originally sentenced to 35 years in prison, Manning\u2019s sentence was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/06\/24\/julian-assange-has-reached-a-plea-deal-with-the-us-allowing-him-to-go-free.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commuted<\/a> by former President Obama in the waning weeks of his presidency. <\/p>\n<p>Assange is expected to appear in court in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S.-controlled territory, at around 9:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nmid.6474\/gov.uscourts.nmid.6474.3.0_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> issued by the DOJ. The islands are in close proximity to Australia \u2014 Assange\u2019s home country \u2014 where he is expected to return following his court hearing and subsequent release. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/crgggyvp0j9o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BBC<\/a>, the plea deal will allow Assange to spend \u201cno time in US custody and \u2026 receive credit for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-probe-biden-admins-release-of-russian-cybercriminal-aleksei-burkov\/\" title=\"House Republicans Probe Biden Admin\u2019s Release of Russian Cybercriminal Aleksei Burkov\">time spent incarcerated<\/a> in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assange\u2019s wife <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/stella-assange-says-will-seek-pardon-husband-julian-2024-06-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Reuters on Tuesday that she will seek a pardon for her husband, claiming her husband\u2019s guilty plea \u201cunder the Espionage Act in relation to obtaining and disclosing National Defence information is obviously a very serious concern for journalists and national security journalists in general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the aforementioned classified materials, Wikileaks notably published hacked communications from the Democratic National Committee in the months leading up to the 2016 election.
