But on Thursday, the country will sit down not to learn about who the two men vying for the White House are but rather to listen to them, once again, throw sharp elbows as each tries to denigrate the other\u2019s administration. <\/p>\n<p>White House Reporter <strong>Haisten Willis <\/strong>took a look at the last two head-to-head contests between President <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> <\/strong>and former President <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong>  in 2020. While those debates were haunted by the giant specter of COVID-19, there were plenty of promises made and criticisms thrown that weren\u2019t directly related to the vicious pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>As Haisten pointed out, not everything Biden promised and Trump argued has aged well. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTrump bragged in the debate that \u2018by the end of the first term, I\u2019ll have [appointed] approximately 300 federal judges and Court of Appeals judges, 300.&#8217;\u201d Haisten wrote. However, this is one of Trump\u2019s comments that has not aged well. For one, he finished with 234 appointed judges rather than 300. More importantly, Biden is on pace to beat his record, with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/judicialtracker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> 201 appointments<\/a> as of June 14, which is more than Trump had at this point in his term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Biden: \u201c[There are] 220,000 Americans dead [from COVID-19]. If you hear nothing else I say tonight, hear this,\u201d Biden said in his very first remarks of the debate. \u201cAnyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States of America.\u201d <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In January 2022, when Biden had still been in office for less than a year, the total number of COVID-19 deaths under his watch<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/joe-biden-elected-tame-virus-sees-his-covid-death-toll-surpass-donald-trumps-1654136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> surpassed<\/a> those of Trump, even though vaccine doses became widely available early in the Biden presidency. By May 2022, there had been<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/joe-biden-elected-tame-virus-sees-his-covid-death-toll-surpass-donald-trumps-1654136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> more than 1 million<\/a> COVID-19 deaths, 60% of which occurred after Biden took office.<\/p>\n<p><em>Click <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3051960\/matter-of-debate-biden-trump-promises-2020-debates-how-have-they-held-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>here<\/em><\/a><em>  for a robust reminder about what Biden and Trump promised four years ago and compare their words to their actions on Thursday.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Policy primer <\/h2>\n<p>After looking back at 2020, Economics Reporter <strong>Zachary Halaschak <\/strong>is helping everyone look ahead and pick out the buzzwords about most voters\u2019 biggest concern \u2014\u00a0the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpect several questions about the economy,\u201d Zachary wrote. \u201cToo-high inflation has been plaguing the country since just after Biden was sworn in and has quickly become the No. 1 problem on voters\u2019 minds. Kennedy Jr.<\/strong> is running as an independent alternative to Trump and Biden. Ken]Buck\u2019s<\/strong> term through the rest of this year,\u201d Mabinty wrote. But Lopez won\u2019t be running in the primary contest to <em>replace<\/em> Buck. That contest will feature Rep. <strong>Lauren Boebert <\/strong>(R-CO), who is trying her hand in a new district. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoebert is the front-runner in the race and has the backing of Trump<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2955495\/boebert-gop-opponents-blast-boozy-trump-new-york-gala\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> despite the scandal<\/a> that erupted after Trump\u2019s security detail admonished the Colorado congresswoman for her drunken antics at the New York Young Republican Club\u2019s annual gala in Manhattan last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Utah<\/h3>\n<p>There isn\u2019t much of a contest for partisan control of any seats in deep-red Utah.
