At the \u200dtime \u200dof \u200bthe fire, 102 \u2062employees were present in the factory. The blaze\u2062 began with \u200done battery cell catching on fire, which then triggered a series of explosions affecting approximately 35,000 stored battery cells on the second floor. In addition to\u200d the fatalities, eight people were \u200dinjured, and one worker was reported missing. The fire was challenging to contain, requiring the efforts of over 160 firefighters and 60 fire engines. In addition to the 22 people killed, one worker was missing while eight were injured.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Jin-young, an official with the Hwaseong Fire Department, said 102 workers were in the factory when the fire broke out, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>One battery cell caught fire, he said, leading to a series of explosions that rippled through the 35,000 battery cells stored on the factory\u2019s second floor.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: At least 21 people killed in fire at South Korean lithium battery plant \u2013 Yonhap <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PfZItgRLr7\">pic.twitter.com\/PfZItgRLr7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BNO News (@BNONews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BNONews\/status\/1805140067876225223?\">June 24, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/highway-closed-3-alarm-blaze-erupts-lithium-battery-plant-fire-officials-can-watch-burn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lithium batteries<\/a> are an essential component for electric vehicles, from bikes to trucks, but the fire risk from them has risen as their use proliferates.<\/p>\n<p>Batteries from Aricell are often used to run utility networks, the Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>More than 160 firefighters and 60 fire engines fought the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Lithium <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alabama-firefighters-pour-36000-gallons-water-single-burning-car-highlighting-deadly-problem-american-roadways\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battery fires<\/a> can be stubborn to extinguish.<\/p>\n<p>A fire at the Gateway Energy Storage facility near San Diego last month broke out on May 15 but was not extinguished until May 31, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2024\/06\/20\/fire-in-otay-mesa-puts-battery-storage-projects-under-scrutiny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Union-Tribune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Rezende, Alternative Energy Emergency Response coordinator for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, said a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-firefighters-use-6000-gallons-of-water-to-put-out-tesla-fire-on-highway-50\/\" title=\"California Firefighters Use 6,000 Gallons of Water to Put Out Tesla Fire on Highway 50\">lithium-ion battery fire<\/a> is different from other blazes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistorically speaking, we usually tend to see a much longer period of time where this cascading damage just keeps going, almost like the domino effect,\u201d Rezende said, according to the Union-Tribune.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">San Diego Firefighters have flown in experts to the Otay Mesa Battery Storage site to study the fire because they don\u2019t know how to extinguish it. That\u2019s the simplest way to describe it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In January, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senecainsurance.com\/lithium-ion-battery-fires-on-the-rise-destroying-properties-taking-lives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seneca Insurance<\/a>, citing data from UL Solutions, said that across the U.S., there have been 445 lithium-ion battery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/firefighters-heroic-rescue-caught-video-investigators-say-lithium-ion-device-set-292-unit-building-ablaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fires<\/a>, 214 injuries, and 38 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>E-bikes in New York City were responsible for 267 fires in 2023, 18 deaths, and 150 injuries, it reported, citing data from the Fire Department of New York.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past three years, lithium-ion battery fires have been the top cause of fatal fires in New York City, according to Seneca.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
