Democrats have also targeted other key states such as Michigan, Arizona, and North Carolina, where they hope to maintain or gain legislative majorities. The\u2064 Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has launched a $10 million \u201cSummer of the States\u201d \u200ccampaign, marking \u2064a historic pre-election spending aimed at flipping state legislatures blue.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans, however, contend that despite the Democrats&#8217; financial and candidate\u2062 advantages, it\u200d is the \u2062issues that resonate more with voters. GOP leaders argue that their focus on the economy, \u2064immigration, and public safety aligns more \u200cclosely\u2062 with voter\u2064 concerns. Instances of narrowly winning elections despite\u2064 being outspent reinforce their belief that effective policy communication is more impactful than financial spending.<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of key\u200b electoral issues, Democrats \u2064emphasize abortion and LGBT rights\u200d as primary voter concerns, citing instances\u200c where these\u2062 issues have driven voter engagement at the doors. Conversely, Republicans dispute this focus,\u200d arguing that economic issues, crime, and immigration are at \u200dthe forefront of voters&#8217; minds. Both parties believe their chosen strategies \u200dand issue \u2063focus areas will appeal to voters and determine success\u200d in the upcoming elections.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ahead of November, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democratic-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democratic Party<\/a> has promoted record candidate recruitment numbers and historic spending as indicators the country should prepare for a blue wave this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>election cycle<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republicans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Republicans\">Republicans<\/a> say that\u2019s not enough, warning that money and candidates don\u2019t compare to being able to tap into what voters truly care about when trying to flip red seats.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have both candidates and money, and they\u2019ve flooded swing states with campaign staffers and canvassers. In Wisconsin, newly drawn state legislative maps have empowered Democrats to recruit candidates for every state Senate seat on the ballot for the first time in over 20 years. The same goes for Florida \u2014 where even in the bright-red state, Democrats have recruited candidates to contest every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/impossible-gop-picked-up-seats-in-house-picked-up-state-legislatures-picked-up-governorship-held-the-senate-but-sniffy-joe-won-not-a-chance\/\" title=\"IMPOSSIBLE: GOP Picked Up Seats in House, Picked Up State Legislatures, Picked Up Governorship, Held the Senate -- But Sniffy Joe Won?... NOT A CHANCE\">state legislative race<\/a> for the first time in 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>The trend continues in other swing states, too. The party has recruited candidates to run for every seat in Michigan, where it hopes to protect its vulnerable majority, and in Arizona, where it hopes to flip seats. Democrats recruited candidates even in red-leaning North Carolina in all 50 state Senate races and 119 of 120 House races as they attempt to break the Republican supermajority.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has poured historic levels of funding into flipping states this November. DLCC press secretary Samantha Paisley said its $10 million \u201cSummer of the States\u201d campaign denotes another historic effort to leave a blue mark on state legislatures. Paisley called the campaign, unveiled last week, a \u201chistoric, first-of-its-kind investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the most that we\u2019ve ever announced at this stage of the cycle,\u201d Paisley told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cIt is, again, going to our targets, and it\u2019s really sounding the alarm on why we can\u2019t wait until September or October to think about the state legislative level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their main priorities are, in order: protecting vulnerable Democrats in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota; flipping states with vulnerable republican majorities such as Arizona and New Hampshire; and building momentum in\u00a0North Carolina and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>Top Republican strategists and political leaders concede Democrats have far outspent the GOP, but they said this doesn\u2019t phase them. <\/p>\n<p>One of Minnesota\u2019s top Republicans deflected worries during an interview with the <em>Washington Examiner.<\/em> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats at least recently seem to outrace Republicans and outspend Republicans, but they don\u2019t seem to get the bang for their buck,\u201d said David Hann, the Wisconsin GOP chairman. \u201cTwo years ago, during the statewide races [in Minnesota], they outspent Republicans by nearly 10 to 1 and only won by 2,000 votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Christopher Ager said Democrats also outspend Republicans in his state to the tune of 3-to-1 in state funding, and 5-to-1 in out-of-state spending. But Ager said he remains optimistic. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still maintain control of the state House because we have the policies that are in sync with the voters of New Hampshire,\u201d the chairman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Ager pointed out recent Republican wins in New Hampshire that make him dismiss Democrats\u2019 financial advantage. As 2023 came to a close, Republican Jay Ruais successfully challenged four-term Democratic Mayor Joyce Craig in Manchester, flipping the city red for the first time in years. <\/p>\n<p>A running theme among GOP strategists and leaders is their party\u2019s focus on the economy,\u00a0 immigration, and crime as winning issues with voters. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issues Republicans want to talk about are issues, concerns that most ordinary people have to confront in their daily lives,\u201d Hann noted. \u201cInflation, economy, immigration, flooding, the border, public safety, crime. These are all things that Democrats seem to just ignore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ager made the same claim: \u201cThere are three things voters are talking about \u2026 the economy and inflation, No. 1. No. 2 in the cities is crime, homelessness, and drug problems. \u2026 And the third one is the open border, immigration, and all of the problems that come with that.\u201d\u00a0Ager said the \u201cbetter approach to politics\u201d is \u201call about offering policies and positions that make the lives of the people living the state better. That\u2019s it. \u2026 We want to help make the lives of people better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats have no interest in those things,\u201d Hann contrasted. \u201cThey want to talk about abortion, and they want to talk about transgender policies and things that have, I think, very, very limited effect on most people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Key Democratic strategists said the top-of-line issues for voters are abortion and LGBT rights.\u00a0It was the first thing Wisconsin Assembly Minority Leader Greta Neubauer, a Democrat, brought up when asked what is driving voters this election cycle. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the issues we have heard repeatedly on the doors already this year are abortion,\u201d the Democratic leader told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cA very important issue for people in Wisconsin who lost access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare for a time after the fall of <em>Roe<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin Sen. Jeff Smith, a Democrat, said he agreed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, we\u2019re going to hear a lot about the fact that reproduction rights are really important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When pressed on whether inflation or immigration might be more important to voters than abortion or transgender issues, Democrats pushed back. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe economy and the immigration issue are certainly issues that are on top of people\u2019s list as well,\u201d Smith said. \u201cBut the economy is going really well. And\u00a0we have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-commerce-secretary-claims-no-shred-of-evidence-that-trump-tax-cuts-increased-growth-and-productivity\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Commerce Secretary Claims No \u2018Shred Of Evidence\u2019 That Trump Tax Cuts \u2018Increased Growth And Productivity\u2019\">record low unemployment<\/a> right now in Wisconsin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paisley said she believes sometimes the most important issue is\u00a0\u201cthe economy and sometimes it is abortion. I think voters understand very clearly that the fundamental freedoms are being decided by state legislatures. So it\u2019s that whole range of issues from abortion to, you know, democracy to gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ager was quick to push back, saying polling shows abortion isn\u2019t the top concern for voters in his state. In January, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2024\/01\/09\/metro\/explore-results-suffolkglobeusa-today-poll-new-hampshire-primary-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>poll<\/a> conducted by the <em>Boston Globe<\/em>, <em>USA Today<\/em>, and Suffolk University surveyed both Democratic and Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. When asked what was the most important issue facing the country, abortion scored near the bottom of the list, under 5%. The top issue was the future of American democracy, at nearly 30%, followed by immigration and border security, around 25%, and the economy, at roughly 17%. <\/p>\n<p>The New Hampshire Republican said he thinks the Democratic Party is trying to weaponize issues to motivate voters to get to the ballot box. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re running on fearmongering and lies about an abortion,\u201d Ager said. \u201cThe Democrats will try to instill fear and distrust because they have nothing else to run on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ager made a similar claim that the Democratic Party has pushed anti-abortion voters out of its coalition. He told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that while the Republican Party has \u201cpro-choice and pro-life Republicans,\u201d it\u2019s hard to \u201cfind a pro-life Democrat. They\u2019re not welcome.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Hann echoed the thought. \u201cThere used to be many Democrats statewide [in Minnesota], who were very pro-life,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re all gone. There are no pro-life Democrats in Minnesota.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As he wrapped up an interview with the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, Smith touched once more on how voters will determine whether to vote red or blue this November while sounding a note more reminiscent of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.\u2019s centrist rhetoric than the progressive wing of his party. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all want the same things. We want security. We want to feel secure in our community. We want to have strong schools for our children,\u201d Smith said.
