Despite his love for the \u2063show, his current focus\u200d and commitments lie with \u200chis new project, &#8220;Horizon: An\u200d American Saga,&#8221; a four-part feature film\u2063 series set \u2063around the Civil War, which he \u2062directed and co-wrote. The first chapter of the story hits theaters on June 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that\u2019s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/from-leftist-icon-to-pariah-the-journey-of-j-k-rowling\/\" title=\"From Leftist Icon To Pariah: The Journey Of J.K. Rowling\">beloved series<\/a> that I love, that I know you love, I just realized that I\u2019m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future,\u201d Costner said in a video posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was something that really changed me. I loved it. And I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won\u2019t be returning and I love the relationship we\u2019ve been able to develop and I\u2019ll see you at the movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">An update for you guys. I could have done a lot of things in that time, but I wasn\u2019t aware that that [hold-up] was going to happen,\u201d he said. \u201cThe scripts weren\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Costner told People that when \u201cYellowstone\u201d was originally pitched to him by show creator Taylor Sheridan, it was to be one season, like a \u201clong movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said when Paramount wanted more, he stepped up and agreed to do three seasons, \u201cand I ended up doing it for five.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Costner reiterated these points on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d earlier this week when asked about a possible return to \u201cYellowstone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumber one, I did it for five years, OK, and I want to work more than once a year. We lost an entire year at one point and I thought, \u2018Well that can\u2019t ever happen again.\u2019 It was well over a year,\u201d he said Monday.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Skrb71uETuU?si=tyDZyqlUqN0EFwg7\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"   style=\"display:none\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Costner added: \u201cAnd I said, \u2018I just have to be in position to make the things.\u2019 There\u2019s a chance to do both of them, but material has to be ready at certain times, and we weren\u2019t able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHorizon\u201d is a passion project for Costner, who first conceived the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PEYKKAForAs&#038;ab_channel=TODAYwithHoda%26Jenna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">story back in 1988<\/a>. He has sunk a considerable amount of the financial assets that he has accumulated through his entertainment career to see it produced, including mortgaging his home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u201d host Savannah Guthrie quoted from a recent interview in which Costner said, \u201cI\u2019m as far out of a limb as I have ever been,\u201d and asked the 69-year-old why take such a risk at this point in his life.<\/p>\n<p>Costner responded that he decided to let his heart\u2019s desire to make the movie control him over the fear of losing his wealth. But, he added, that he has reserved enough that he\u2019ll be okay for the rest of his life and his children will be too.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rLaYzHhHdok?si=sMsUA2M9_1G20WIe\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Hollywood veteran noted how moving it was to receive an 7-minute standing ovation for \u201cHorizon\u201d following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month in France with five of his kids standing by his side.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u201cHorizon,\u201d Costner has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kevin-costner-jabs-whoopi-goldberg-cutting-off-going-commercial-stand-talking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">starred in<\/a> several movies set in the Old West, including \u201cSilverado\u201d (1985), \u201cDances with Wolves\u201d (1990) and \u201cWyatt Earp\u201d (1994).<\/p>\n<p>Costner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0099348\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won<\/a> the Academy Award for best director and best picture for \u201cDances with Wolves\u201d in 1991.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
