The National Weather\u200b Services \u2064reported that \u200dup to 2 inches \u2062of rain had already fallen\u2064 with an additional 1.5 inches expected. The extreme weather\u2062 conditions led to flash flooding and road closures in various parts of Las Vegas. Local government urged residents to evacuate and prepare for possible overnight displacement.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ap-reports\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ap-reports\/%20\"><span>The Associated Press<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 22, 2024 at 12:37am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/heavy-rain-uncovers-2000-year-old-tomb-in-homeowners-backyard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heavy rain<\/a> and flash flood warnings in New Mexico prompted officials to order some mandatory evacuations, with shelters set up for displaced residents.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service office announced a flash flood emergency on Friday night through early Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The impacted areas included the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/police-issue-statement-mysterious-monolith-discovered-outside-las-vegas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las Vegas<\/a>, New Mexico and communities near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-mexico-governor-loses-control-armed-citizens-roll-albuquerque\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Albuquerque<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) of rain had fallen by late Friday with additional rainfall up to 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) expected overnight, the weather service said.<\/p>\n<p>There was flash flooding with multiple road closures on the north and west sides of Las Vegas, the weather service said.<\/p>\n<p>The Las Vegas municipal government announced mandatory evacuations of parts of the city in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media posts<\/a>, warning residents to prepare for overnight stays.<\/p>\n<p>The city said it established shelters for residents on the west and east sides of the city.<\/p>\n<p>The city government asked residents to limit non-essential water use, while also clarifying that online rumors suggesting the city\u2019s water dams had broken were false and that the dams \u201care currently intact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Mexico also suffered devastating wildfires this week that killed at least two people and forced thousands to flee from the flames.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Have you ever been to Las Vegas?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The South Fork and Salt fires in south-central New Mexico destroyed or damaged an estimated 1,400 structures.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and New Mexico Gov.
